87 <br />Mr.•Paxton retired at 9:10 P.M. <br />The Chairman read -a letter from Mrs. Catherine Misch, <br />whose application for a license to maintain and operate Misch <br />a slaughterhouse at 20 Hill Avenue was denied last week. Sliughter <br />Mr. Misch requested an appointment with the Board House <br />this evening. <br />At 9:12 P.I. Mr. and Mrs. Misch appeared before the <br />Board. <br />The Chairman said that he understood that this <br />particular alaughterhouse had not been used for some time, <br />and Mrs. Misch replied that it had not been operated for <br />about a year. <br />Mr. Rowse explained to Mrs. Misch that the'reason <br />it was allowed was because of the fact that it existed <br />prior to the adoption of the 'Zoning Law, and that this <br />location is strictly residential. <br />Mrs. Misch asked why it was that the building could <br />not be continued for the purpose of a slaughterhouse, <br />and the`Chairman replied that it was because of the regula- <br />tions of the Zoning Law which are for the overall protection <br />of the Town. <br />Mr. and Mrs. Misch retired at 9:30 P.M. <br />A letter was received from the Secretary to the Inv. to <br />Governor inviting the Board of Selectmen to attend Reception <br />Governor and Mrs. Tobin's public reception'on Washington's p <br />Birthday in the Hall of Flags. <br />The Chairman read a letter from George W. Amery <br />stating that the Board of. Fire Engineers had voted not <br />to include an Article in the Warrant relative to placing <br />members of the fire department under Civil Service. <br />The Chairman read a letter from Raymond L. White, <br />Town Accountant, informing the Board that he had employed <br />a new girl as of February 6, 1946, at a salary of $20.00 <br />per week to replace Mrs. Dorothy Murray. Mr. White <br />stated that he hoped the Board of Selectmen would approve <br />this action, inasmuch as he did not have time enough to <br />consult the Board before making the change. Mr. White <br />further stated that on May 1, 1944 he was authorized to <br />employ Mies Virginia Tarbell at a salary of $22:.00 per <br />week, but he hired her at $20.00 per week. However,' <br />she later received a $2.00 increase. In this year's <br />budget he has included $1.00 increment, but he would like <br />to have this recommendation changed to a $2.00 increment; <br />Mr. White stated that he had mentioned this matter to <br />Mr. Hoyt, Chairman of the.
