PBC Meeting Minutes
14 July 2011 Meeting
4.18 BOS Presentation
6/9/11
PBC discussed having a meeting in late July or early August and inviting BOS /Energy Committee /CPC /CEC /Town Manager.
It was discussed that the format of the presentation might be best based upon the phasing plan.
4.19 Bridge Gym Floor
Old mastic below existing gym floor at bridge would require added project scope to abate. Gym floor is presently in reasonable
shape (aged but not failing). Discussed cost options need for replacement.
4.20 Entrance
6/9/11
Current scope has no plans for modifications at the building entrance discussion on removing existing entrance canopy and
adding new canopy with new walks and landscaping to improve school entrance. It was proposed that this element of the work
could go a long way in soliciting support for the project.
4.21 Review of Design Development Estimate
7/14/11
DPC reports project design development estimate is $2,834,515 over estimated Schematic Design projections.
DPC attributed some of these cost increases to:
• material prices, ductwork, pipe and wire going up.
• General conditions originally as a percentage. Need for double shifts in the summer.
• Complexities were not anticipated.
Discussion ensued on ways to best present and understand the current cost estimates and determine where overruns might be.
It was agreed that an additional meeting would be required with further refinement of the estimate by DPC.
4.22 Scope Items
Discussion and recommendations for some specific scope items were made.
Options for Fire separation for the modular classrooms were discussed and with projected costs or $25,000 (wall)and $48,000
(modular relocation) The PBC discussed support for the lesser cost option ( wall) as long as option approved by building
commissioner.
Replacement of the Bridge gymnasium floor solely for the purposes of abatement of mastic was discussed. The gym floor is
other wise in acceptable conditions and fully intact. Replacement of the floor solely for the purposes of abatement of otherwise
intact material was not preferred.
7.0 Estabrook Elementary
7.1 Estabrook SOI
2/10/11
MSBA supported Estabrook SOI. Reimbursement would be between 31 and 40 %. MSBA has procedures to follow for OPM, Designer
and Schematics. Issue going to Town Meeting for funding request.
4/14/11
OPM and Designer Selection to begin soon.
5/12/11
DPF found out that project was not accepted by MSBA as emergency project but as normal project.
6/9/11
MSBA has said they will support 540 student plan for Estabrook
Page 7 of 8
