ARTICLE 8 (1) <br /> Project: Town Office Building Renovation <br /> CPA Category: Historic Resources <br /> Amount Requested: $1,823,881 <br /> Amount Recommended: $1,500,000 <br /> CPC Vote: (6-3) <br /> Project Description: <br /> The Town Office Building was built in 1927 and the rear wing was added in 1971.The relocation <br /> of the Department of Public Works/Engineering Division to the new Public Services Building <br /> represents the most significant shift of offices in the Town Hall for nearly 40 years and provides <br /> an opportunity to address a number of code and space allocation issues within this building. <br /> In 2008,Annual Town Meeting approved$80,000 for a space programming and design study <br /> through construction documents and $30,000 in supplemental funds at the 2009 Annual Town <br /> Meeting.The architectural firm of Bargmann,Hendrie and Archetype(BH+A) is working to <br /> conduct the architectural and engineering portion of this work.To date,the code evaluation and <br /> programming of space needs and building use work has been completed. Town staff has worked <br /> with the architects and with the Town Manager's Office, and a preferred design concept has been <br /> determined. This FY 2011 CPC request will lead to the implementation of the preferred design <br /> and the ultimate completion of renovations to the Town Office Building. <br /> Project Goals and Objectives: <br /> • To improve accessibility in keeping with ADA standards and code compliance <br /> (65% of project costs). <br /> o All entrances will be handicapped accessible. <br /> o Accessible ADA restrooms will be available on all levels. <br /> o All customer service/transaction counters will be made ADA <br /> accessible. <br /> o Railings and doorways will be upgraded to comply with ADA <br /> standards. <br /> o Life-safety fire suppression systems will be expanded. <br /> • Limited changes will be incorporated to department adjacencies to foster a more efficient <br /> working environment, (35% of project costs). <br /> o To provide better space planning and improved ability to respond to <br /> impending changes in records storage requirement laws. <br /> Project Benefit: <br /> The benefit will be an ADA and code compliant Town Office Building with improved efficiency <br /> and effectiveness for serving the customers and staff,thus ensuring that the building remains fully <br /> functional for its intended use. <br /> Funding Request: <br /> The funding request for the project was $1,823,881,based upon design and cost estimates <br /> submitted to the CPC in early March. The CPC voted on March 22",to fund $1,500,000 of the <br /> funding request. <br /> 17 <br />
