Voted, That the sum of $1500.00 be appropriated <br />and assessed for the support of poor at the Poor Farm the ensuing <br />year. On motion of Mr. B. F. Brown it was <br />Voted, That the Selectmen be requested to report at the next <br />meeting as to the propriety of selling the Town Farm. <br />ART. 10. Voted, That the sum of $5507.18 be appropriated <br />and assessed for the support of the outside poor the ensuing year. <br />ABT. 11. Voted, That the sum of $18,000.00 be appropriated <br />for the support of the Highways the ensuing year. , $11,500 to he <br />assessed and the balance $6500 to be taken from the Bank and <br />Corporation account. <br />Under ART. 11, Mr. P. J. Corbett made a motion that the em- <br />ployes of the Highway Department be paid at the rate of two <br />dollars a day for a nine hours day, but upon motion of Mr. C. B. <br />Davis it was <br />Voted, That the matte r be referred to the Surveyors of High- <br />ways. <br />ART. 12. Voted that the sum of $6412.10 be appropriated and <br />assessed for the support of the street lights the ensuing year. Un- <br />der this article Mr. George G. Whiting offered the following motion, <br />which was carried : That a committee of five be appointed by <br />the Moderator to investigate the matter of street lighting, and that <br />the Selectmen be requested to make no contract for the balance of <br />the year, pending a report from such committee. Under this vote <br />the Moderator appointed the following committee : Daniel G. 'Ty- <br />ler (chairman), Charles B. Davis, Nathaniel H. Merriam, Frank H. <br />Locke and Charles Garrison. <br />30 <br />ART. 13. Mr. George W. Taylor offered the following motion : <br />That the sum of $4000 be appropriated and assessed for the pay- <br />ment of the Fire Department expenses for the current year, and that <br />the board of three engineers shall receive not exceeding one hun- <br />dred and twenty-five dollars ($125.00) for their services, and that <br />other members of the Fire Department shall receive not exceeding <br />twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per annum. Mr. Sampson suggested <br />that the question be divided, and the motion was first put on that <br />part of the motion providing for the payment of the members at the <br />rate of $25.00 per annum. <br />This motion was declared lost ; seven voters doubted the vote, <br />and the house was polled, with the result that the ]notion was lost <br />by a vote of 91 to 59. Mr. Sampson then made a motion which <br />was carried that the other members of the Fire Department shall <br />receive not exceeding $37.50 per annum. <br />Mr. Taylor rnoved an amendment that the board of engineers <br />shall receive not exceeding $225.00 for their services. This motion <br />was put and declared lost ; the original motion, as amended, was <br />carried, as follows : That the sum of $4366.78 be appropriated and <br />assessed for the payment of the Fire Department expenses for the <br />current year, and that the board of engineers shall receive not ex- <br />ceeding $125.00 for their services, and that the firemen be paid <br />semi-annually—June 30 and Dec. 31. <br />Voted, That the meeting adjourn to April 28, at 7.30 P. M. <br />Meeting adjourned at 10.20 P. M. <br />
