9 <br />ART. 5. To see if the town will accept "An Act to provide for <br />the addition of a portion of the town of Lexington to the Met- <br />ropolitan Sewerage System, being Chapter 520 of the Acts of <br />1897. <br />On motion of L. A. Saville it was <br />Voted, That Articles 4 and 5 be taken up together. Mr. <br />George O. Whiting asked that Mr. Woodfall, one of the <br />engineers who laid out the work and made the surveys for <br />the committee and who was present at the meeting, might be <br />allowed to answer any questions or make any suggestions in <br />regard to the sewerage report, which permission was granted. <br />Dr. J. O. Tilton, chairman of the committee on sewerage, <br />stated that Mr. M. H. Merriam, a member of the committee <br />who had lately died, had devoted a great deal of time and <br />thought to the question, and he regretted that we could not <br />have had his report of the investigations which had been <br />made by the committee. <br />The Dr. made a brief statement of the work done and <br />of the different systems considered by the committee and <br />hoped the citizens would consider the matter carefully, and <br />said that if we ever desire to enter the Metropolitan System <br />we must do it now, as this was our only chance ; and moved <br />the town accept the acts of the legislature as presented in <br />Articles 4 and 5 of the warrant. <br />ART. 4. Voted, That the town accept "An Act to author- <br />ize the town of Lexington to construct a system of sewer- <br />age," being Chapter 504 of the Acts of 1897. (Vote unan- <br />imous.) <br />ART. 5. Voted, That the town accept "An Act to provide <br />for the addition of a portion of the town of Lexington to the <br />Metropolitan Sewerage System," being Chapter 520 of the <br />Acts of 1897. (Vote unanimous.) <br />10 <br />ART. 6. To see if the town will elect a board of three com- <br />missioners to be called "The Board of Sewer Commissioners of <br />the Town of Lexington," one to hold office for one year, one for <br />two years and one for three years, respectively, from the date of <br />the next annual town meeting, as provided in Section 2 of Chap- <br />ter 504 of the Acts of 1897, or act in any manner relating <br />thereto. <br />On motion of Mr. Geo. W. Sampson, by vote of 53 to 29 <br />it was <br />Voted, To postpone the election of sewer commissioners <br />until the annual town meeting, and that they be elected by <br />ballot at that meeting. <br />ART. 7. To see if the town will accept the provisions of "An <br />Act to provide for the further protection of trees and for the <br />prevention of fires in woodlands," being Chapter 254 of the Acts <br />of 1897. <br />On motion of Mr. A. S. Parsons it was <br />Voted, That the town accept Chapter 254 of the Acts of <br />1897, entitled "An Act to provide for the further protection <br />of trees and for the prevention of fires in woodlands." <br />ART. 8. To see if the town will vote to elect at the next an- <br />nual election of town officers, a tree warden to serve for one <br />year under Chapter 190 of the Acts of 1896. <br />The town having accepted under Art. 7, this article was <br />passed over. <br />Meeting declared dissolved. <br />A true copy. <br />Attest : LEONARD A.
