LEXINGTON TOWN RECORDS. <br />(FROM TOWN CLERK'S RECORD. <br />WARRANT FOR A TOWN MEETING. <br />SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1898. <br />To WILLIAM B. FOSTER, Constable of Lexington, GREETING : <br />In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are <br />hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town <br />of Lexington, qualified by law to vote in town affairs, to assem- <br />ble at the Town Hall on Saturday, the fifth day of February, A. <br />D. 1898, at 7.30 o'clock P. M., to act on the following articles, <br />viz. : <br />ART. 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting. <br />On motion of W. H. Whitaker it was <br />Voted, To proceed to choose a moderator by ballot, the <br />polls to remain open five minutes. <br />On ballot nineteen votes were cast. A. E. Scott had <br />eleven, Geo. W. Sampson had eight, and A. E. Scott was <br />declared chosen as moderator and was sworn by the clerk. <br />ART. 2. To hear the report of any committee that may be <br />ready to report and act thereon. <br />Dr. J. O. Tilton for the committee on sewerage stated <br />that said committee had attended to that duty and the result <br />of their labors was before the meeting in the acts of the <br />legislature, etc., presented in the warrant for this meeting. <br />Mr. A. S. Mitchell made inquiry if any report of the con- <br />dition of the hydrants had been made, as ordered at a former <br />meeting, and if not, that such a report be made to the annual <br />meeting in March. <br />ART. 3. To see if the town will authorize their treasurer, <br />under the direction of the selectmen, to borrow the sum of six <br />thousand dollars in anticipation of the collection of taxes the <br />current year, to pay a note of the Hancock School House loan <br />which becomes due February 23, 1898. <br />On motion of Mr. E. S. Spaulding it was <br />Voted, That the town treasurer be authorized, under the <br />direction of the selectmen, to borrow the sum of six thou- <br />sand dollars in anticipation of the collection of taxes the <br />current year, for the purpose of paying a note of the Han- <br />cock School House loan which becomes due February 23, <br />1898. <br />ART. 4. To see if the town will accept "An Act to authorize <br />the town of Lexington to construct a system of sewerage," be- <br />ing Chapter 504 of the Acts of 1897. <br />
