<br />ART. 17. Voted, That the Selectmen be author-
<br />ized to draw from any unappropriated money in the
<br />treasury for the payment of contingent expenses.
<br />ART. 18. Voted, That the town appropriate the
<br />sum of one hundred dollars towards the lexpense of
<br />sprinkling the main street in the two villages, pro-
<br />vided a sum not less than two hundred dollars for
<br />that purpose be raised from other sources, and that
<br />the sum contributed by the town shall not exceed
<br />one third of the entire expense, to be expended by
<br />a committee of three, to be appointed by the Chair.
<br />And the Chair appointed as such committee, Dr.
<br />J. O. Tilton, Nelson W. Jenney, and H. E. Richard-
<br />son.
<br />ART. 19. Voted, That a committee of three be
<br />appointed by the Chair to investigate, and report
<br />at next meeting, if a suitable room can be obtained
<br />for the purpose, and the following committee was
<br />appointed: C. G. Kauffmann, Geo. O. Smith, Miss
<br />Ellen A. Stone.
<br />ART. 20. Voted, That the sum of two hundred
<br />and fifty dollars be appropriated for instruction in
<br />sewing in the public schools.
<br />ART. 21. Voted, That a committee of five be
<br />appointed by the Chair to take into consideration the
<br />subject of a new schoolhouse for the Hancock
<br />School, and report at the April meeting, and the
<br />chairman appointed as such committee, F. O. Faille,
<br />Webster Smith, E. I. Garfield, Francis E. Ballard,
<br />and Edward T. Harrington.
<br />ART. 22. Voted, That a sum not exceeding forty-
<br />five hundred dollars be appropriated for the purpose.

<br />of paying land damages on Main Street, as awarded
<br />by the County Commissioners.
<br />ART. 23. Considerable discussion was had upon
<br />this article by Messrs. Bennink, Scott, Holt, Parker,
<br />Alderman, Raymond, and Thompson, and it was
<br />voted to take the article up with .Articles 3, 4, and
<br />11, on a motion made by Mr. F. F. Raymond.
<br />Poled, That the Selectmen be instructed to peti-
<br />tion the Legislature to amend the act of incorpora-
<br />tion of Cary Library so that the town shall be
<br />represented on its Board of Trustees, that the vote
<br />be taken by the check -list, on a separate ballot, and
<br />that the polls be kept open till half past five o'clock
<br />p.i., by voting " yes " or " no" on the question. After
<br />the polls had been declared closed and the votes
<br />counted, the moderator announced, as follows: —

<br />And the Selectmen were so instructed.
<br />ART. 24. Voted, That a committee of three be
<br />appointed by the moderator to examine the subject
<br />and report thereon at the next meeting, — Franklin
<br />Alderman, Albert S. Parsons, Frank E. Tufts.
<br />Aur. 25. Voted, That the sum of ninety dollars
<br />be appropriated for the purpose, to be expended
<br />by the Selectmen.
<br />ART. 26. Voted, That the sum of two hundred
<br />dollars be appropriated for the purpose, to be ex-
<br />pended by the Cemetery Committee.
<br />Ai.T. 27. Voted, That the matter be indefinitely
<br />postponed. Under Article 3, the following officers
<br />were chosen by nomination:—
