Town Celebrations Committee Meeting Minutes November 18, 2020 Virtual Meeting Members Present June Baer, Chair; Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Steve Cole, Wei Ding, Linda Dixon, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Lorain Marquis, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering, Sam Zales Members Not Present Karen Gaughan, Mary Hutton, Gresh Lattimore, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Rita Pandey, Ashley Rooney, Business: • June convened the meeting at 7:05 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. • The committee approved the minutes of November 4, 2020. • June asked committee members to write up their activities and timelines for this year's Veterans Day and give the write ups to her so she can keep a record of TCC activities for future reference. Martin Luther King Day, January 18, 2021 • Sam Zales noted that although the last few years, Martin Luther King was honored with Days of Service, this year would have to be different due to the pandemic. • All activities will be online: 0 9:00 am Opening Ceremony. Regie Gibson will be the main speaker. 0 10:00 am Community Conversation on Race will focus on healthcare 0 1:00 pm Unity Walk. They might consider doing a car parade. o Afternoon activities will be done at home and delivered later • Sam will send the committee more information about the activities and he asks that TCC members distribute to their networks. • June suggested that the MLK committee ask Cary Library to distribute information about the activities to their clients. Honoring Veterans Banner: • The banner was hung over Mass Ave in front of Cary Hall from November 9 through 13. Car Parade Recap: • June reported that Jill Hai asked June to convey to the TCC that the Select Board was very happy with the parade. • Michelle Ciccolo posted pictures of the parade on her Facebook page. • It was suggested that the same type of parade could be done every year since it is a good way to get the veterans involved in a safe way. • Committee agreed that the Boy Scouts did a great job in washing the marker text off the cars after the parade. • Committee agreed that the Girl Scout honor guard was very appreciated by the veterans in the parade. • Committee commended the efforts of member to generate publicity about the parade since there was a good crowd cheering on the parade.
