Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting February 27, 2019 Lexington Community Center Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; June Baer, Suzanne Caton, Kim Coburn, Wei Ding, Linda Dixon, Karen Gaughan, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering, Members Not Present Glen Bassett, Carol Flynn, Mary Hutton, Paul Jenkins, Gresh Lattimore, Wayne Miller, Geetha Padaki, Rita Pandey, Dave Taylor, Bob Tracey, Sam Zales Business: • The chair reported that a quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm. • Minutes from the meeting of February 13, 2019 were approved. • The committee briefly discussed the Heritage of America band concert which was held on Monday, 2/25. The concert went well but the committee regretted that there wasn't a larger audience, perhaps due to bad weather. • Lorain noted that the TCC Facebook page is being reviewed by the Town Manager's office. • June Baer informed the committee that she will create a database to hold photos from TCC functions and asked committee members to send her any photos they might have. Be sure to identify the content and date of the photos. • Linda and Lorain reported that they have contacted the new Superintendent of Lexington Schools and hope to set up a meeting with her soon. The Superintendent responded very positively to Linda and Lorain about getting involved with TCC. • Lorain noted that she is planning to set up a meeting with the Arlington Town Celebrations Committee very soon. • The next TCC meeting will be on March 13, 2019. Patriots' Day, April 15, 2019: • June Baer and Sue Stering reported on their recommendations concerning parade units proposed by Golden Bough Productions. The units they recommended be followed up on included: ➢ Uncle Sam stilt walker ➢ Hip Hop band ➢ African drummers ➢ Hot Tamales Brass Band • Lorain will follow up with Golden Bough. • Bill Mix will talk to Larry Conley about getting some antique cars to participate in the parade. • Sondra Lucente suggested someone should contact Barrett Jackson about antique cars for the parade. • Sandy noted that she has created a poster to advertise that the Navy Band will be in the parade. She also asked how many copies of the Patriots Day Weekend Schedule should be printed. The committee recommended 600 copies. • Sandy brought up the issue of counting the parade audience and noted that when she researched the issue, it became clear that we couldn't hire an outside firm to do the counting because of cost and size of the parade.
