Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of February 3, 2022
from the votes taken by the PBC, the SLC voted unanimously to support the following
two motions:
1. The Sustainable Lexington Committee recommends approval of the building design
with the PV array electrical and subgrade system and that it be advanced so that it can be
included in the Police Station budget.
2. The Sustainable Lexington Committee recommends that the Police Station building
design proceed into construction documents based on the sustainability design elements
included in the design development materials presented on 3 Feb 2022 at the joint PBC
and SLC meeting.
The PBC recommended that two separate recommendations be made because while the
original project included making the building "solar ready" (like other recent building
projects)the decision to include the design of the solar systems in the scope of the project
was only just made at the last Town Meeting. This approach allows for a solar design that
is part of the overall project, rather than an afterthought.
The first motion indicates the SLC's support for designing the building electrical systems
and subgrade systems (e.g., conduit, foundation locations, etc.)to accomodate sufficient
solar for a net zero building, understanding that the final location and design of the panels
and canopies are yet to be determined and approved.
The second motion indicates the SLC's support for the current status of the building
design with regard to other elements of the Integrated Building and Construction Policy.
The building will be designed to be all electric, the current energy model indicates that
the design will meet the targets in the policy, the HVAC system will include appropriate
levels of air filtration, and, while not complete, the work to remove red-list items from
the design has identified many preferable alternative materials.
Best regards,
Dan Voss, Chair, Sustainable Lexington Committee
Todd Rhodes, Vice-Chair, Sustainable Lexington Committee
Respectfully submitted,
Todd Rhodes
2.
