Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of February 1, 2022
o The design should include all base infrastructure and battery location.
o Also, since the lead time for the solar is shorter than the building, solar can be
added as part of the process and canopies can be approved after the building is
approved.
• In preparation for the PBC meeting on 2/2, the Committee plans to recommend that the
Select Board:
1. Approve a design of the Police Station that represents a 100%net zero project
(based on the buildings energy needs) and considers including sufficient solar
production to meet the energy needed for future EV police cruiser fleet.
2. Include approval of the solar structure along with the building by the HDC, so that
the site will be solar-ready.
3. Ensure that the detailed design for the planned building and parking area include
infrastructure (foundations, conduit, medium voltage service, building systems)that
accommodate the full solar array and future energy storage—for 100%net zero
design.
4. Present an appropriation request to Town Meeting that includes the budget for both
the building and solar structure—as an integrated project.
5. Include charging stations in the outdoor parking area as established in the general
zoning bylaws (e.g., conduit for 50% of parking spaces, and 4% charging stations).
The committee voted to adjourn at 8:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Todd Rhodes
2.
