HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION - LEXINGTON
January 8, 2004

FORMAL HEARINGS:

1. 1690 Massachusetts Avenue - Approved #2004C-1
Petitioner – Cohoes – Jonathan Smith
Re: Exterior Changes - Accessibility

The petitioner reported that upon further investigation (since the informal hearing) it was
determined the existing entry doors and hardware meet the requirements for ADA, so the
existing entrance assembly will remain.

There is currently a brick paved area within the entrance door recess which is at a slight
slope to match up with the existing public sidewalk. This results in a 3” elevation
difference from sidewalk to the finish floor. Cohoes is currently working with the
Lexington building inspector to determine if the existing slope is acceptable for
accessibility or if this area needs to be lowered to create a level transition to the door. If it
is required, the entrance door assembly will be lowered, a 3” wood top frame will be
added under the existing fanlight/transom, and the wood base at the recess sidewalls will
be in-filled and painted. This was presented as Option 2A on the submittal package. The
petitioner received approval for option 2A and the commission will issue the certificate if
the change is required.

Cohoes will be stripping and painting the exterior wood trim at doors, windows, etc. The
color will be white, not requiring approval.

2. 32-42 Worthen Road - Approved #2004C-2
Petitioner – Battle Green Apartments – Thomas Fenn
Re: Exterior Changes – Window Replacement

The petitioner received approval for a simulated divided light, double hung wood
window (wood at exterior and interior) to be used as a replacement unit through-out the
Battle Green Apartment complex. The petitioner presented a Pella unit, but indicated the
project will be going out to bid to included Eagle and Norco windows. The commission
indicated any of these manufacturers would be acceptable if they abide by the same
specifications presented at the hearing. The owner will need to contact the commission
after a manufacturer is selected so it can be indicated on the certificate.
Don’t forget sentence about clear glass, etc.

The commission also approved an extension for work previously approved under
certificate No. 2003C-4.
