<br />MINUTES for: <br />BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING <br />Wednesday, August 20, 2014, 7:00 P.M. <br />Estabrook Hall, Cary Hall Building <br />1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA <br />Board of Health Members in Attendance: <br />Wendy Heiger-Bernays, PhD, Chair, John J. Flynn, J.D., Sharon MacKenzie R.N., CCM, David S. Geller, M.D <br />Health Division Attendees: <br />Gerard F. Cody, Health Director, Linda Rainville, Clerk <br />1.) Minutes from June 18, 2014 accepted as amended. <br />2.) Community Health <br /> a.) CHNA grant update – John Gallon of Edenburg Center was interviewed to conduct Mental Health <br />First Aid Trainings <br /> b.) MAPC tobacco grant update – an information session was conducted at Katahdin Woods by Jeanne <br />Flaherty. <br /> c.) Flu Clinic Schedule 2014 – Mr. Cody informed the Board of the Flu Clinic Schedule. <br /> d.) Community Health Report – Mr. Cody told the Board about the bat brought in to the Health Dept to <br />be tested for rabies – the bat did not have rabies. The Board was also informed about the seminars being <br />presented regarding Ticks and Mosquitoes. <br />3.) Environmental Health <br />a.) Food Inspection program <br /> 1.) Royal India Bistro – Jatinda Singh, owner and Lisa Berger from Berger Food Safety <br />Consulting gave the Board an update.Ms. Berger spoke about the improvement that have been made at the <br />restaurant, i.e.; temperature and cooling issues, professional cleaning, working on a master cleaning schedule, <br />training manual by Serve-safe, etc. There are still some issues, such as lighting, light covers, practices for <br />changing food storage. They will return to the September meeting. <br /> 2.) Campylobacter – Potential Food-borne Illness report was investigated – no risk to local food <br />establishment. <br /> 3.) Annual MDPH Food Establishment Report – reviewed annual MDPH compliance <br />b.) State Sanitary Code Case Review <br /> 1.) 26 Volunteer Way – Mr. Cody and Mr. David George met with the owner. The home owner <br />agreed to only use the wood stove between September 15 and June 15. <br /> 2.) 21 Crescent Hill Avenue – A letter has been sent to the homeowner regarding the abandoned <br />pool, abandoned vehicles and not having a fence around the pool. They are required to come in to compliance <br />by September. <br /> 3.) 27 Burlington Street – The homeowner will verify the number of rooms when construction is <br />completed. <br /> 4.) 11 Brandon Street – Homeowner is still feeding the birds. There is bird seed on the ground. <br />12 Brandon Street – the homeowner has a ramp for the raccoons and a temporary storage “pod” that has been <br />there over a year. Mr. Cody and David George, Zoning will make a site visit to see if they can assure that the <br />homeowner comes in to compliance regarding the zoning issues with a storage container. A State Fish and <br />Wildlife expert recommended that seed not be placed on the ground to improve bird health. <br /> <br /> <br />
