In April, <br />Officers Christopher Collins, Kyle Kilimonis and Colin <br />Marsetta completed their field training and joined the patrol <br />division. In May, Christopher Collins was activated by the <br />Massachusetts National Guard for 18 months and was <br />deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. In November, newly -hired <br />Officer Timothy Colatosti and Cadet Michael Bordenca <br />graduated from the Municipal Officers Police Academy. <br />Officer Colatosti started a 12 -week field training program <br />and is expected to join the patrol division in February 2008. <br />In October, Dispatcher John Soares passed away. John <br />served 21 years with the Town of Lexington and his presence <br />is missed. He started his career at the Lexington Fire <br />Department, and then in 1994 was part of the core group of <br />dispatchers for Lexington's first joint police /fire /911 dis- <br />patch center. <br />Programs & Initiatives: <br />• School Resource Officers and the Fire Department con- <br />ducted a "Home Alone" safety program at Lexington <br />High School for 157 students and their parents. This suc- <br />cessful program offers instruction in the areas of home <br />rules and safety, managing emergencies and how to con- <br />tact 911. <br />• At the Open House hosted by the Lexington Police <br />Department in July, hundreds of Lexington residents <br />toured the station; an emergency command vehicle and the <br />newly renovated 911 center were featured attractions. <br />• The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) team, administered <br />by Officer Charles Crayton, provides two or three RAD or <br />RAD -Kids programs each year. These programs are fund- <br />ed in cooperation with the Recreation Department or with <br />community policing grants and private donations. <br />• Officers participated in "Road Respect," "Click -it or <br />Ticket," and "Drunk Driving — Over the Limit — Under <br />Arrest" traffic safety campaigns to help keep Lexington's <br />roads safe. <br />Grant Funding: The Department received more than <br />$200,000 in grant funds for various programs. <br />— $50,000 Federal Budget Award to enhance security at <br />the Middle Schools. <br />— $17,600 in Statewide Telecommunications Training <br />Board grants to provide dispatcher training, with a par- <br />ticular focus on new procedures and the new VESTA <br />911 system. <br />— $36,000 Community Policing grant to fund community <br />programs such as <br />RAD, bicycle <br />patrol and a com- <br />munity survey. <br />— Commercial <br />Equipment Direct <br />Assistance <br />P r o g r a m <br />(CEDAP) grant <br />for search and res- <br />cue GPS software <br />and equipment. <br />— $38,000 from the <br />Northeast <br />H o m e l a n d <br />Security Regional <br />Dispatcher Frank SanSeverino at <br />the new dispatching console.
