These data will be <br />available to all Town Meeting representatives on the school <br />web site and will include: quarterly financial report by line <br />item; FTE count; SPEC variances from budget; Energy con- <br />sumption and cost; Facilities maintenance expenditures. <br />Art. 43: Appropriate for Authorized Capital Improvements <br />Adopted May 2. <br />a) $15,000 for the rehabilitation and restoration of <br />records vault in Cary Memorial Hall, with $15,000 <br />transferred from the unexpended balance of Article <br />4(d) of the warrant for the November 29, 2006 <br />Special Town Meeting. <br />b) $500,000 to complete reconstruction of Fiske and <br />Harrington Elementary Schools; borrowed. <br />Art. 44: Use of Funds to Reduce The Tax Rate <br />Indefinitely postponed May 2. <br />Lexington Ad Hoc Climate Action Plan Committee (LexCAPC) <br />ROLE: to develop a Climate Action Plan for Lexington that <br />will provide a focus for local actions by residents, commercial <br />entities, and local government to achieve cost savings and facil- <br />itate climate protection measures as outlined in the committee's <br />charge. Specifically this Committee will: Engage relevant con- <br />stituencies and stakeholders in a vision for a sustainable com- <br />munity; work with other Massachusetts communities in devel- <br />oping Climate Action Plans; conduct a baseline inventory of <br />Lexington's global warming pollutants; identify actions that <br />could be taken by local government, commercial entities, and <br />residents to reduce global warming pollution and consider the <br />impact of such actions; propose an initial community target for <br />lowering emissions and metrics for monitoring progress; and <br />recommend a Climate Action Plan, including implementation <br />timelines, responsibilities and mechanisms, for adoption by the <br />Board of Selectmen. It is anticipated that the Committee will <br />prepare a draft Climate Action Plan for community discussion <br />within one year, and within two years develop a final Plan for <br />consideration by the Board of Selectmen. <br />APPOINTED by the Board of Selectmen: Chair Toby Sackton, <br />Vice- chairs Rick Abrams and Adam Sacks, John Huchra and <br />Ken Karnofsky, JJ Krawczyk, Andy McClaine, Linda Moran, <br />Charles Moore, Marilyn Campbell and Sam Silverman. <br />HIGHLIGHTS: <br />• Joined International Cities for Local Environmental <br />Initiatives ( ICLEI), which is an organization of more than <br />700 local governments (400 in the U.S., with about 30 in <br />Massachusetts) committed to taking action on Climate <br />Change. <br />• Attended the ICLEI Northeast Regional Workshop 2007 <br />in Hartford, Ct., and met with representatives of other <br />New England cities and towns working on local climate <br />action plans. <br />• Obtained a software program from ICLEI used to quanti- <br />fy greenhouse gas emissions which will become the basis <br />for our quantitative report on Lexington's greenhouse gas <br />emission footprint. <br />• Received material from the town, as well as the Energy <br />Committee, with existing data on energy usage where <br />available. <br />• Gathered data on both commercial and residential energy <br />use in addition to greenhouse gas emissions (including <br />heat, electricity usage, transportation, and waste genera- <br />tion) in Lexington. <br />• Planned a public presentation of Lexington's greenhouse <br />gas emissions footprint for the spring of 2008. <br />2007 Annual Report, Town of Lexington Page 23 <br />
