Selectmen and Planning Board had <br />differing views. Selectmen were in agreement that this letter should be <br />sent, if the Planning Board did not choose to revise its statement., <br />Referring to the Park's proposal for extension of the Park lands to <br />include Hayward Pond area residential land, Ms. Dailey expressed his <br />disfavor with the Planning Board' s October 17t-b- reca u endation that the <br />Park Service give consideration to voluntary and friendly acauisition of <br />these residential ro � ties, over tirre, as the owners decide to sell <br />p � a <br />them, noting the emotional 1 impact to homeowners o f such procedure. <br />p <br />Nr. Eddison said he saw no need to disturb the integrity of that <br />neighborhood, and suggested that screening could be used to preserve the <br />historic ambience of the Park. He asked that the Planning Board be <br />aware of the impact on people and their neighborhoods under this sort of <br />a plan. He added his compliments on the excellent preparat i. on of the <br />position paper. <br />mrs. Smith said she has seen the adverse affects to a neighborhood <br />when neighbors gradually leave and saw no need to destroy it when there <br />is no overriding need. <br />The Planning Board then returned to its office for further <br />deliberations on its position. 4, ,.. <br />The Selectmen continued to discuss other aspects of the statement. <br />Regarding the proposed relocation of Rte. 2A, Mr. Marshall noting that <br />it is a busy road, said he did not fee comfortable with the concept and <br />did not support it. He added that the Conservation Ca n fission had also <br />expressed its opposition. He said he felt that it would be a poor use <br />of federal money. <br />Mr. Eddison said he felt that the re- creation could he accomplished <br />within limits, to show visitors what it had been like to live and fight <br />in Revolutionary war days and if even part of the relocation could be <br />imp lemented it would enhance the Park Service's capacity to recreate the <br />1775 ambience realistically. He said he saw that potential and asked <br />for the Board's support. <br />Mrs. Smith said she would endorse the relocation of certain <br />sections of 2A if cost and environmental issues allowed . <br />Motion was made by Nor. He pointed out that at that tz.me , <br />the Park Service had not been cooperative p � <br />P � � with res to a passible <br />land swap. <br />He felt that with respect to the Rte. 22h relocation, modern <br />needs, as well as historical needs, need to be considered► and that the <br />Park - Service should now begin to work cooperative -3 -Y with the Tcwn. Mr. <br />Dailey asked that that view be conveyed to the Part Service. . <br />
