S is I�T'ING <br />i <br />February 29, 198$ Y.. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on <br />Feb 29 1988, in the Selectmen's <br />tamen' s Meeting Rva�n, Tom office <br />Building, at 7:30 p.m. Chairman Eddi.son, Mr. Marshall Mr. Dailey, rs <br />Smith,, Mr, y' ' <br />eyI Mr. T�hite ■ Town Manager; Mr . when Town <br />Mrs. Snow Executive ounsel, <br />e Clerk, were present, <br />LIGHTING, USS LEx MIMRIAL <br />William Fitzgerald and Peter D tteo of the Lions Club <br />were <br />present for discussion of the proposal to illuminate the mararial to the <br />five USS Lexington , to be installed between the visitors Centex <br />and <br />Buckman Tavern. <br />Mr. Fitzgerald informed the Board that plans for the dedication on <br />April 18th are going well and that Governor Dukakis will atten <br />the <br />ceremony. <br />He referred to an existing amber light on the Buckman Tavern vern, which <br />it was thought might adequately illuminate the me�rr�rial. A light on a <br />yardarm on the mmwial flagpole can be installed if the Buckman Tavern <br />lighting needs supplementing, Chief Furdon had agreed with the <br />plan to <br />test the adequacy of the existing lighting, which will be a cost saving <br />measure to the Lions of about $1.500. <br />■ an The Selectmen concurred with the plan for a trial period of the <br />z Bookman Tavern lighting, <br />g tsng. <br />REPAINMG OF BUCDM TAVERN <br />Grossiman President of the Lexington Historical Soci <br />n �' <br />was present for discussion of the Society' s proposal to r t the <br />Buckman Tavern in a color believed to be s � m � lar to its color in <br />1775, <br />and to remove the existing shutters. He noted that the Tavern is ' <br />d. of � <br />need and felt that this would be a good time to consider <br />the <br />change Proposed. Peter Kelley, who was also went had done <br />P�` an <br />analysis of the various layers of paint in a chi taken from the <br />building, the 1775 P <br />ding color had appeared to be a light mustard color <br />Cream colored trim and a black or dark green door is ro sed, <br />Mr. Kelley eferred P 1� <br />Y to a report by Sara Chase of the Society for <br />the Preservation of New England Antiquities and outlined the r <br />p ocedures <br />followed in her <br />chronological study of the layers of colors. He <br />displayed a rendering of the tavern in the proposed color and min us the <br />shutters. Herequested permission from the Town, as the owner of the <br />PrOPertYr to petition the Historic Districts Cargnission for the c <br />in appearance . <br />Mr. Eddi son raised the question as to how far the e f <br />qu st or <br />authenticity would go in the attempt to restore the 1775 look and ask <br />if it might lead to r of existing shrubs and trees on the <br />Green <br />and all modern amenities and plantings at the Tavern. He referred <br />to <br />Article 3 4 of the Warrant which asks for of a stud on Desi <br />�••.
