Raithel, Jr. as <br />Lieutenant f the Lexington Fire Dept, and introduced Chief Bergeron who <br />outlined the background and qualifications of Lt. Raithel and the training <br />necessary to become an officer in the Fire Department, _ <br />Lt. Raithel and his-parents were asked-to come forward and he was <br />congratulated by the Board and the Manager following the pinning on of his <br />badge by his mother. - <br />MINUTES OCTOBER ? 1986 <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve the <br />minutes of the Selectmen's Meeting on October 7, 1986, as presented, <br />DRUB AL�CIHOL AWARENESS PROGRAM <br />Mr. McSweeney read a draft Proclamation of the month of November as <br />Alcohol /Drug Awareness Month in Lexington. He noted his concern about this <br />problem as discussed at the Selectmen's Goal Setting Meeting, when it was <br />agreed to explore the scope of the problem in the Town. <br />He felt that great progress would be made if Lexington citizens were to <br />be made aware of its prominence in the community and noted the contributions <br />of the Lexington Youth Commission whose members will again be going into <br />the schools to speak to students on drug and alcohol abuse. He also <br />acknowedged the cooperation.of the Pol Department, Replace and - the School <br />Department on the pro stressi - that much more needs to be done to make <br />the Town drug and alcohol free. <br />PR O C LAMAT I ON , <br />- -HUMAN RIGHTS DAB' <br />Mr. Eddison read a draft proclamation of December 10th as "Human Right <br />Day" in Lexington. The proclamation, as requested by AmneSty International, <br />urged citizens of LeX i ngton to Join the members of the Lexington Chapter of "" <br />Amnesty International in writing letters, signing petitions, or other <br />actions in defense of "prisoners of Conscience". As a former member of that <br />organization, Mr. Eddison noted the unwavering efforts of A.I. members to <br />alleviate the plight of prisoners of conscience all over the world and urged <br />approval of the Proclamation. <br />
