LDAC
EXINGTON ESIGN DVISORY OMMITTEE

September 23, 2009

To: Board of Appeals

Re: Crushed Grapes & More, Omni Food, 411 Walnut Street, Lexington, MA
Temporary Sign Application

At its regular meeting on September 1, 2009, the DAC reviewed the proposed temporary sign
applications for Crushed Grapes & More, Omni Food, 411 Walnut Street, Lexington, MA. Generally,
the style and size of the signs look appropriate for their purpose. The DAC is concerned that there are
too many signs out at the same time at this location and that certain types of signs should be limited to
certain locations for specific periods of time. The DAC commented that signs advertising products,
specials and sales are not events and prefer they be limited to store windows or at the very least be
removed daily from exterior locations. Many of the advertisement banner and sandwich board type
signs have been seen out consistently, including overnight, appearing to be permanent. The DAC does
not object to signs announcing special events remaining for the length of the event but suggest allowing
only one banner and one sandwich sign per event be displayed at a time.

The Design Advisory Committee recommends this project be approved with the following comments.

Respectfully submitted,

Timothy D. Lee, ASLA, Chairman
Lexington Design Advisory Committee

Cc: Board of Selectmen
