SELECTMEN MEETING <br />i July 2, 1984 <br />- A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on Monday, July <br />2, 1984, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, at 7:30 p.m. <br />Chairman Battin, Mr. Sacco, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Marshall, Mr. Eddison; <br />Ms. Adler, Acting Town Manager; Mr. Cohen, Town Counsel and Mrs. Snow, - <br />Executive Clerk, were present, <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve minutes <br />of Selectmen's Meetings on April 23,-April 25, April 30, May 2, May 7, <br />May 9, May 12, 19840 <br />PON <br />The Board reviewed the recommendations of the - Traffic Safety Ad- <br />visory Committee on the request of Arlene Ekman for safety measures to <br />prevent "cutting" at the intersection of Walnut Street and Concord Avenue. <br />The Committee agreed that a problem exists whereby the intersection width, <br />on a downgrade, invites " at the corner , and recommended that the <br />situation be remedied by installation of, a small channelizing island, with <br />"Keep Right" signs on Walnut Street . <br />.r <br />Ms. Adler suggested that the island be temporarily designed by sand- <br />bagging . or that it be painted ' on the - street pavement f or a 90---day period - , <br />noting the $2, 000 cost for actual installation of . an island. She also <br />recommended installation . of the "Keep Right" signs. <br />Upon - motion duly made and seconded, it was voted that a painted c hanne l-- <br />izing island and "Keep Right" signs be installed at- the intersection of Walnut <br />Street and Concord Avenue, -as recommended by the. Traf,f ic.. Saf ety Advisory <br />Committee and Acting Town Manager, in., response to the request of Arlene <br />Ekamn. Traffic James Lima for improvement Lima <br />of safety conditions at Hartwell Avenue at Maguire Road Captain Lima had Hartwell Ave. <br />noted hazards Which exist regarding traffic safety in general and particularly <br />with respect to the Police officer assigned to that location weekday after- Maguire Rd. <br />noons during the peak tra f f ie hour. The Committee supported the recommenda- <br />tions of Capt. - Lima for improved safety in turning movements by the installa- <br />tion of "required right turn" signs as well as pavement markings and other <br />appropriate signs designed to keep eastbound traffic along Hartwell Avenue <br />to the right. The Committee also concurred with Captain Lima' s . suggestion <br />that a lighting survey be conducted in order that cost estimates for correc- <br />tion of poor lighting at that can be developed. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve installation <br />of "Required Right Turn" s igna ge and pavement markings at the intersection of <br />Hartwell Avenue and - Maguire Road, and that a lighting survey in conjunction <br />with improved lighting conditions at that location be carried out, as proposed <br />by Captain of Traffic James Lima and recommended by the Traffic Safety Advisory <br />Committee. <br />
