Eddison. <br /> (See MOTION: That the Selectmen be and they hereby are authorized to <br /> Page 6 construct or reconstruct concrete, bituminous concrete or other <br /> for sidewalks, and to take by eminent domain, purchase or otherwise <br /> motion acquire any fee, easement or other interest in land necessary <br /> as therefor; to appropriate the sum of $110,000 for such construction <br /> adopted) or reconstruction and land acquisition, and that to .raise such <br /> amount $110,000 be transferred from the Unreserved Fund - Special <br /> Assessments. 9:13 P.M. <br /> Mr. Eddison listed the following locations: <br /> Massachusetts Avenue - Waltham Street to <br /> Lexington Square 380 <br /> Worthen Road at Medi -Mart S.W. side 400' <br /> East Street - Lowell Street to town line 750' <br /> Pleasant Street -- Concord Avenue to Lawrence Lane 900 <br /> 9:15 P.M. <br /> Richard A. Michelson moved that: Sidewalk construction be authorized <br /> (Amend. for 1. 380 foot section on the southerly side of Mass. Ave. <br /> Lost) (between Waltham St. and Lexington Square $60,000 <br /> 2. 750 feet of East St. from Lowell St. to the Woburn Line $15,000 <br /> 3. The east side of Pleasant St. from Concord Ave. to beyond <br /> 1 <br /> Lawrence Lane. $ <br /> -,_ 9:17 P.M. 35 000 <br /> Mr. Eddison voiced the opposition of the Selectmen to this amendment. <br /> He said that the estimate submitted is an overall estimate and the <br /> town does not want to be locked in to the exact amounts for each <br /> street as stated in the amendment. 9 :20 P.M. <br /> Mr. Michelson, deleting the dollar amounts, read his re-- worded motion <br /> to amend as follows: <br /> (Amend. MOTION: That the following words be added after the word "sidewalks" <br /> Lost) as follows: <br /> 1. 380 foot section on the southerly side of Mass. Ave. (between <br /> Waltham St. and Lexington Square <br /> 2. 750 feet of East St. from Lowell St. to the Woburn Line. <br /> 3. The east side of Pleasant St. from Concord Ave. to beyond <br /> Lawrence Lane <br /> 9:23 P.M. <br /> There was much concern in the use of bricks rather than concrete in <br /> the center of town. The aesthetic reasons were understood, but <br /> the durability and safety for walking were questioned. <br /> j <br /> Mr. Michelson's motion to amend Article 15 was declared lost by <br /> voice vote. 9:29 P.M. <br /> (Amend. Frank Sandy moved that: add at end of motion: "none of such funds <br /> adopted) shall be used for sidewalks on Mass. Ave. ". 9:30 P.M. <br /> James M. McLaughlin suggested voting on each street separately. 9 :38 P.M. <br /> Arthur C. Smith asked if the Mass. Avenue sidewalk was servicable at the <br /> present time and Mr. Eddison said there was a difference of opinion. <br /> D.P.W. and the Engineering Department see the beginning of deterioration. <br /> Mr. Sandy's motion to amend declared adopted by voice vote. 9:40 P.M. <br />
