Police Project Update-Jeff McElravy(Tecton Architects)
Jeff presented the latest updates for discussion.
• Floor plans were reviewed, upon recommendation and prior discussions the mechanical room was moved
to the upper floor.
• Jon H. suggested that it would be easier to understand the elevations context if the balance of the site
and buildings were included.
• The relocation of the Hosmer House was discussed. Someone mentioned there had been some
discussion about a Vine Ave property as a possible location. Mike C stated that multiple options had
been entertained and the issue was still a work in progress.
• A committee member asked about the "shelf space" in the lobby above the bathrooms and does it
become an area where dust gets collected.Jeff stated that the design intention is to allow natural light
into the lobby and they would work on the related issues.
• Review of the outside perspective is still evolving. Some discussion on landscaping approach and any way
to minimize entry steps and ramp.
• Building progress design elevations were discussed, these have been focused on more during meetings
with HDC liaison.
• Meeting Tuesday October 15th, 2019 at 11:00am. With liaison to HDC to review more design issues.
After speaking with the structural engineer, Jeff stated the Insulated Concrete Form System (ICF) is no longer
recommended. With the existing Police Station's framework, it doesn't provide the best opportunity to take
advantage of the ICF's system benefits. Jeff recommends traditional steel frame and infill construction.
An additional PBC meeting has been scheduled for 10-16-19 where the sustainable Lexington members are
expected to participate and review the integrated design aspects of the project.
2. Fire Station Update— Jeff McElravy(Tecton Architects)
Jeff reviewed photos of the construction and brickwork. The building should be enclosed by the end of
November 2019. Delays were a result of asbestos containing materials in and under the existing building that
needed to be mitigated.
Sub-contract work completion date scheduled around April 25th, 2020.
201 BEDFORD STREET• LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420
