Page 158 <br /> August 24, 1976 <br /> Upon the recoumtendation of the Superintendent of Schools it was DATA <br /> PROCESSING <br /> VOTED: that the Lexington Public Schools award the bid for Data Process- <br /> ing equipment to the Digital Equipment Corp. , in the amount of <br /> $6200. (Brown, Michelman, Unanimous. (It was noted that as of <br /> 8/24/76 this equipment would be funded completely by the State) <br /> Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools it was FREE & REDUCED <br /> PRICE LUNCHES <br /> VOTED: that the regulations regarding Free and Reduced Prices on milk <br /> and meals as described as follows be approved. (Michelman, Brown, <br /> Unanimous) <br /> Federal and State Regulations require that school districts provide <br /> free milk and free lunches to needy students. It also recommends that <br /> provision be made for reduced prices for others. Guidelines concerning <br /> gross family incomes are established as a major criteria. We are required <br /> to do the following: <br /> I. Send a notice and application to the home of every child enrolled. <br /> Copy attached to be sent home during opening week of school. <br /> 2. Notify all applicants of decisions concerning applications within <br /> 10 working days. <br /> 3. Send a "Hearing Procedure" to those who have been denied. (Copy <br /> attached) <br /> 4. Notify public information regarding the program in the local paper. <br /> (to be in the September 2, 1976 issue of the Lexington Minute-man) <br /> The school committee must formally vote to accept the policy and pro- <br /> cedures each year. <br /> Dr. Lawson presented a draft of an Equal Opportunity Resolution to EQUAL <br /> the School Committee. He reviewed the contributions made by members of OPPORTUNITY <br /> the Human Relations Committee at Lexington High School, Lexington Educa- RESOLUTION <br /> tion Association, Human Relations and Human Development Committee, League <br /> of Women Voters, members of the NOW organization, and P.T.A. Council. <br /> Mr. Michelman reviewed several suggestions for possible inclusion in the <br /> final draft. Dr. Lawson invited other committee members to indicate any <br /> revisions or additions. He said the policy would be written and submitted <br /> at the next school committee meeting. <br /> Mrs. Swanson suggested that the School Committee make up a listing SCHOOL COMMITT?a <br /> of priorities and design goals for the coming year. Mr. Brown said he REPORTS <br /> had presented a listing of priorities, in fact one had been accomplished <br /> with the appointment of the new assistant superintendent. He said he <br /> would have his list duplicated for the members of the committee. <br /> Dr. Lawson stated that some form or plan for Capital Expenditures CAPITAL <br /> for over the next five years was now being worked upon by Mr. Maclnnes.
