432 <br />After further discussion Dr. Nichols, Dr. Murphy and Mr. Stocker thanked the <br />Board and retired. <br />,VNA Mr. Smith presented the VNA Nurses contract to Mr Lambie for his signature. <br />CONTRACT The amount per visit will go from $18.00 per visit to $20.00 for the '85 fiscal <br />year <br />Mr. Smith told the Board that the mosquitoes are out there in abundance. <br />,MOSQUITO The E.M.M.C.P. have started trapping. Theyare looking for "Highland J" <br />REPORT <br />They are backpacking into the swamp areas now and this knocks down <br />mosquitoes by the thousands. <br />SICK Dr. Roemer asked about the disease of the skunks and raccoons. <br />SKUNKS & Mr. Smith said they call it the "circling disease". It is a virus that <br />RACOONS. creates discharges from the eyes and nostrils of these animals and they sometimes <br />go around in circles. These animals are nocturnal and when they contact this <br />disease they seem to be out in the daytime. <br />MISC. <br />Humans do not have any ill effects from these sick animals but there is a <br />problem for dogs and cats. The only thing we can do is shoot them. <br />The dog officer has had a couple of confrontations with residents that <br />don't want these sick animals shot. <br />Mr. Smith mentioned he had received a letter from Bailus Walker, State Health <br />Commissioner, about mosquito control but he had received nothing from the state <br />in regard to the cancer survey. <br />October 20th, 1984 has been set aside as Hazardous Waste Day. <br />Mr. Smith told the Board that he would like to raise the permit fees of <br />(RAISING the retail food establishments and the pools to $50.00 each. He feels there is -a <br />'OF FEES lot of work involved in inspections of both of these establishments. The pools <br />are checked out several times and water samples are taken all summer long. <br />The Board has no objection to these increases. <br />Mr. Smith told the Board that Linda Behar has a new project she is getting <br />interested in. It is the "head lice" problem in the schools. <br />Mr. Smith said he had sent a memo out to the Fire Chief, Police Chief, and <br />Joan Halverson, Director of Recreation listing four items that should be standarized <br />procedure for emergency at the swimming pools. He has asked them for their com- <br />ments and suggestions. <br />Mr. Smith told the Board that the Rabies Clinic was disappointing. There <br />were "under 300 dogs" immunized. He said next year he is only going to have a <br />one day clinic or have it on a Saturday. <br />Dr. Roemer said she hopes the Town Manager will appoint her replacement <br />soon because she has so many things to attend to before she leaves for Africa. <br />She said this is the last meeting I hope to attend. <br />
