443 <br />He sai.'i b„ went with Deputy Fir- Chief Fradette to inspect <br />Franklin School the other day. This was in ansa-s=r to a complaint <br />from th school. nurse. Mrs. Packer. Deputy Fradete was amazed <br />to find old scatter rugs. upholstered furniture and corragated <br />boxes usd in the classrooms. The boxes were used to make houses, <br />they were used for shelves and a number of other things. This <br />would be a real problem in ease of fire. The school nurses are <br />very concerned about the use of the rugs and furniture because <br />there is no means of cleaning them properly. <br />The Board asked if the furniture and rugs could be a con- <br />tributing factor in the spreadof the lice and nits. Mr. Heustis <br />said Y -s. <br />Dr. Cosgrove said he thought the school would do w 11 to <br />bring in a professional exterminator, but this lice was a health <br />problem. The furniture although he did not approve was a school <br />problem. and he felt it up to the school to see that it was taken <br />care of properly. <br />Mr. Heustis said he thought the school nurses were looking <br />to the Board of Health to take a firm stand on some of these <br />things. <br />After further discussion it was agreed that the Board should <br />be in the position of a consultant. The school should get the <br />problem cleaned up and then they could adopt certain policies <br />which would prevent a situation like this in the future. <br />The Board agreed that they would support the suggestion that <br />the Town should have a doctor for pre-employment physicals for TOWN <br />police and fire personnel. also Public Works. Dr. Ellicott said DOCTOR <br />he would suggest a fee per service basis rather than a flat re- <br />tainer rate. <br />Mr. Heustis reported that he also talked with Mr. OtConnell BARE <br />about the barn feet policy tend thy agreed that; an executive order FEET <br />by the Board of Selectmen for the public buildings would be more <br />effective. <br />The letter from the Chamber of Commerce supporting an a- <br />doption of no bare feet in the public buildings was read by the <br />Board. <br />Dr. Cosgrove said he thought the letter should be acknowledged. <br />He suggested Mr. Heustis do some research on the problem of bare <br />feet and see how far the Board could go in enforcing and adopting <br />a regulation. <br />The order to Arthur Zeitler, proprietor of the Village Variety VILLAGE <br />Stores at 93 Massachusetts Avenue and 189 Bedford Street regarding VARIETY <br />the rubbish around the stores was approved. STORES <br />Mr. Heustis reported that this matter had been taken <br />care of. <br />The order to Alexander's Pizza Parlor, 180 Bedford Street <br />regarding the mixing of garbage and rubbish was approved. <br />
