17 <br /> LEXINGTON CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes of the Fifth Meeting, October 18, 1955 <br /> The fifth meeting of the Town Celebrations Com- <br /> mittee was held in a conference room in Cary Hall on <br /> the evening of October 18 Mr Lewis called the meet- <br /> ing to order at 8 10 p.m Nine members were present <br /> Mesdames Cheever and Williams, Messrs Lewis, Dear- <br /> born, Rooney, Gustin, Foster, Frothingham, and Belcher <br /> The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br /> approved Mr Lewis read a letter from Mr Reed giv- <br /> ing us answers to the questions we asked him on the <br /> evening of October 5 concerning problems as to the <br /> operation of our committee. <br /> 1) The duties and scope of the Committee as DUTIES <br /> well as the authority fall under the direction and <br /> authority of the Board of Selectmen <br /> 2) The Board will pay for expenses connected EXPENSES <br /> with UN Day and writing materials Budget should be <br /> started at once and will be due by December 15, 1955 <br /> The Board unanimously agrees with our suggestion of <br /> budget approved one year in advance and urges us to <br /> submit two this year ( 1956 and 1957) . <br /> 3) Flags will be displayed on the Common on FLAGS <br /> Monday, October 24 <br /> 4) The Board is unanimously in favor of hav- TREE <br /> ing a tree planted on UN Day in memory of Julius <br /> Seltzer Mr Maloney would like to donate the tree <br /> a d-the Bo-ardsigge-sts ourcuntacting-Chanes Brent.,LA <br /> of the Shade Tree Department about the kind of tree <br /> and where it is to be planted <br /> Mr Rooney volunteered to pick up the budget <br /> forms and a copy of last year' s budget at the Town <br /> Office for the next meeting Mr Lewis said he <br /> would answer the Selectmen' s letter acknowledging <br /> their approval and help in planting a tree on UN Day <br /> and informing them that such a celebration would be <br /> impossible this year because the Town Celebrations <br /> Committee has not been appointed until the last of <br /> August and wasn' t able to meet with the Selectmen <br /> 1 until October 5 <br /> L Mrs Cheever reported that cards had been <br />
