CENTER REVITALIZATION COMMITTEE MEETING <br /> December 1, 1983 <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chairman Margery Battin at 12 30 p m. <br /> Attending from C R.0 were Joseph Trani, Karsten Sorensen, John Powell, <br /> William Gothorpe, Jacqui Bateson, David Wells, Robert Sacco, Laura Nichols, <br /> and the Chairman <br /> Attending from the Land Use Subcommittee were Judith Newman, Don Olsen and <br /> Henry Patterson. MAPC representative Angela Frick also attended <br /> Staff people were Wally Tonaszuck, Robert Bowyer and Captain of Traffic <br /> James Lima <br /> Attending in the audience were TMMA Chairman Jack Eddison, John Oberteuffer, <br /> and members of the business community <br /> Chairman Battin informed those present that CRC had not taken a stand on chang- <br /> ing the role of the police officer at the center of Lexington and had written a <br /> Letter to the Editor correcting the misleading headline in the Lexington Minute- <br /> Man Copies of the letter were given out <br /> AGENDA ITEM 1 Discuss Traffic Study report of Norman Abend and the staff recom- <br /> mendations in response to it Both Tonaszuck and Lima filed written <br /> reports Since discussion of the report was active and intense, it was <br /> decided to put off to another meeting (January) the discussion of the Planning <br /> Board amendments to the Zoning By-Law, Agenda Item 2 <br /> CENTER SIGNAL AND AREA Discussion and decisions <br /> 1 Traffic Officer in Center is an asset and we would leave the situation as <br /> is (although he doesn't necessarily have to control signal) <br /> 2 Feasibility and advisability of a fully-automated signal to be investi- <br /> gated along with the cost <br /> 3 Two spaces should be made available for a driver to ask directions from � <br /> Center police and get in off the street so that traffic will not be held <br /> up These spaces are to be available for police, ambulance and fire <br /> department only It was suggested that Wally look into carving out an <br /> extra space or two <br /> TRAFFIC CIRCULATION IN THE CENTER <br /> 1 Right turn lane into Edison Way approved Left turns into Edison Way <br /> tabled Orientation from Mass Ave <br /> 2 Right turns only out of Battle Green Motel and Pewter Pot for the time <br /> being; but look into reversing the direction of access and egress into <br /> Decelle's parking lot <br /> 3 Better signing in the center area approved (as recommended in Abend report) <br /> 4 Abend's suggestion of 2-way traffic from Waltham Street to Muzzey Street <br /> with a through way through the parking lot, is a moot suggestion unless <br /> more land is acquired <br />
