Voted, That the Board of Health be authorized to make prompt <br />arrangements with one or more responsible parties providing for <br />the collection of garbage, ashes and the removal of the same in a <br />manner satisfactory to and under rules and regulations to be fixed <br />by the Board of Health and without expense to the town. <br />John Devine spoke in opposition and Frederick L. Emery in <br />favor. <br />ART. 20. Under this article, Frank D. Peirce offered the follow- <br />ing motion : "That hereafter before any light or lights, to be paid <br />for by the town, are placed in unaccepted streets or ways; the <br />removal of snow, or any work is done in said streets or ways which <br />calls for an expenditure of any of the general appropriation, it shall <br />first be brought before the town for approval." <br />Remarks in favor were made by Frank D. Peirce, William Roger <br />Greeley and Robert P. Clapp. In opposition by Walter Spellman, <br />John Devine, Arthur E. Horton, Bowman W. Patten and William H. <br />Travers. Edward P. Merriam amended by striking out the words <br />"removal of snow." Robert P. Clapp moved to lay the matter on <br />the table and it was so voted.. <br />ART. 23. Under this article, Bowman W. Patten offered the <br />following motion : "That Shirley street, leading from Bedford <br />street, as shown on plan now on file in the Selectmen's office, be <br />accepted by the town when the same has been graded and deeded <br />to the town in a manner satisfactory to the Selectmen." <br />Remarks in favor of acceptance by Bowman W. Patten, Walter <br />F. Spellman and William C. Stickel. In opposition by Frank H. <br />Holmes, Arthur E. Horton and John Devine. Robert P. Clapp <br />moved to refer the matter to the Selectmen with the request that <br />they investigate conditions in regard to Shirley street and report to <br />the town at a future meeting. William C. Stickel moved to amend <br />so that in the future the Selectmen investigate and report on all <br />streets which the town may be asked to accept. Mr. Clapp's <br />motion as amended was carried. <br />R1 <br />ART. 24. On motion of Edwin B. Worthen it was <br />Voted, That the sum of $50.00 be appropriated and assessed <br />to cover the expense of keeping a proper set of books in connection <br />with the trust funds of the town. <br />ART. 25. Under this article Bartlett J. Harrington offered the <br />following motion : "That the sum of $175.00 be appropriated and <br />assessed for the purpose of installing two fire alarm boxes as called <br />for by said article." This article was referred to the Finance <br />Committee. <br />ART. 26. Oa motion of Frank D. Peirce it was <br />Voted, That the sura of $100.00 be appropriated and assessed <br />to meet the expense of placing a drinking trough for animals at or <br />near the corner of Lowell and Woburn streets. <br />ART. 30. On motion of Frederick L. Emery it was <br />Voted, That the town accept the provisions of Sec. 48, Chap. <br />49 of the revised statutes relating to the construction of sidewalks <br />and the setting of edgestones. William C. Stickel spoke in <br />opposition. <br />At 10.35 o'clock it was voted to adjourn for two weeks to March <br />27, at 7.30 o'clock p. m. <br />A true copy. Attest : <br />CHAS. W.
