TOWN OF LEXINGTON <br />COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE <br /> <br />General Criteria for Project Selection <br /> <br />The Lexington Community Preservation Committee reviews proposals that are eligible for <br />funding under the Community Preservation Act (CPA), specifically projects for: <br /> <br /> <br />The acquisition, creation, and preservation of open space; <br /> <br />The acquisition, preservation, rehabilitation and restoration of historic resources; <br /> <br />The acquisition, creation, preservation, rehabilitation and restoration of land for <br />recreational use; <br /> <br />The acquisition, creation, preservation, and support of community housing; and <br /> <br />The rehabilitation and restoration of open space and community housing that is acquired <br />or created with CPA funding. <br /> <br />Preference will be given to proposals that: <br /> <br /> <br />Preserve or utilize currently owned Town assets; <br /> <br />Preserve the essential character of the Town as described in the Comprehensive Plan; <br /> <br />Are consistent with other current planning documents that have received wide scrutiny <br />and input and have been adopted by the Town; <br /> <br />Receive endorsement by other municipal boards or departments; <br /> <br />Save resources that would otherwise be threatened; <br /> <br />Benefit a currently under-served population; <br /> <br />Serve more than one CPA purpose (especially in linking open space, recreation and <br />community housing); <br /> <br />Demonstrate practicality and feasibility to be implemented expeditiously and within <br />budget; <br /> <br />Produce an advantageous cost/benefit value; <br /> <br />Leverage additional public and/or private funds; and <br /> <br />Provide long-term contributions to the Town. <br /> <br /> <br />Category Specific Criteria <br /> <br />Open space <br /> proposals that receive preference are those which: <br /> <br /> <br />Preserve and/or restore threatened or deteriorating public lands; <br /> <br />Permanently protect important wildlife habitat, and areas containing diverse vegetation, <br />geologic features, and habitat types, particularly those supporting threatened or <br />endangered species; <br /> <br />Promote connectivity of habitat and protect or enhance wildlife corridors; <br /> <br />Provide opportunities for passive recreation and environmental education; <br /> <br />Provide connections with existing trails or potential trail linkages; <br />5 <br /> <br /> <br />
