2
Center Program Advisory Committee hold a joint meeting with the Recreation
Committee annually. We will plan to do this after the new director is up and running It
was also suggested that should attend other meetings where things potentially relating to
the CC are being discussed.
• The Committee discussed partnerships with other groups in town for collaborative
programming. Lexington Community Education (LCE) is interested in using the CC for
some of their programs. Once fees for building use are established, these discussions can
move forward. There does seem to be some overlap with what other groups that are
offering programs, like Hayden and Monroe. Charlotte said that we are offering some
programs with Monroe now. The Evergreen Support group will be offering a Chinese
New Year program for Seniors. The Lexington Chorale from Brookhaven came and gave
a concert recently that was well attended.
• Nancy found out about Communities United from the head children's librarian at Cary.
They conduct outreach programs in communities for children ages birth through 8.
Information on their programs can be found at
http:// communitiesunitedefce .weebly.com /program- calendar.html
If you look under the calendar, there is a description of the programming they provide.
Nancy, Sheila and Tom Romano will be meeting with Megan Sharkey from Communities
United on December 28th.
• Dan is still working on outreach to find someone to facilitate an Intergenerational Snow
Sculpture Program for this winter.
3. Directors Report
Sheila gave an update on some of the programs happening at the CC.
o The classes for the winter term for 60+ people are well subscribed and some
programs have waiting lists.
o Family Fun Nights are being offered monthly. This month, there will be a family
movie night.
o There are 80 classes being offered this winter that begin in January.
o A middle school tubing trip to Nashoba will be offered on the January early release
day.
• Charlotte reports that the new Volunteer Coordinator is working on the Friendly Visitor
Program and some intergenerational programming. They are also looking at the World
Health Organization Friendly Community Initiative and whether it would good to try and
bring this program to Lexington.
4. Balanced Programming
• Intergenerational Programming- we discussed trying to find ways to offer
intergenerational programming. One idea suggested is a Duck Tour.
Next Steps for Committee Members:
o Reach out to your constituencies for program ideas.
o Think about ideas for intergenerational programs.
o If you are unable to attend a meeting, please send an email to Nancy at
nshep12 @verizon.net or text her at 781 - 718 -8577. A quorum for our meetings is 4
committee members and we had just 4 members for the December meeting.
