Recreation Committee <br />FY22 Annual Report <br />Role: <br />Responsible for the planning and administration of public parks, playgrounds, athletic fields and <br />recreational facilities in the Town. It is charged with administering, expanding, and promoting <br />recreation, leisure activities, play, sports, physical fitness, and education for all citizens. <br />Appointed by the Town Manager to 3 -years terms, the membership as of September 1, 2022: <br />Rick DeAngelis (Chair), Christian Boutwell (Vice Chair), Lisa O'Brien, Claire Sheth, Carl Fantasia, <br />Renen Bassik, Weiwei Li. <br />Lisah Rhodes resigned from the Committee in May 2022 and has been appointed to the Capital <br />Expenditures Committee (CEC). Renen Bassik and Weiwei Li were appointed to the Committee <br />on July 14, 2022. <br />Liaisons: Suzie Barry (Select Board), Deepika Sawhney & Kathleen Lenihan (School Committee), <br />Rod Cole (CEC), Julie Ann Shapiro (Council on Aging). <br />Sub -Committee: Lincoln Park. Brian Kelley (Chair), Cristina Burwell, Robert Pressman, Joanne <br />Shorter, David Williams <br />HIGHLIGHTS: <br />• Expanded Adaptive and Inclusion Services for residents of all abilities, including an <br />expansion of the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) presence. <br />• Provided extensive virtual/remote programming and service delivery to ensure safe <br />community access to health and wellness opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic. <br />• Reopened the Community Center to the public after a 15 -month closure during the <br />COVID-19 pandemic. <br />• Expanded Recreation Committee membership from 5 to 7 beginning in FY2022. <br />• Participated in the Town Manager's Financial Working Group to discuss alternate <br />funding models for the Recreation Enterprise Fund. <br />• Participated in the Town Manager's LHS/Center Recreation Working Group to discuss <br />the Center Recreation Property, LHS renovation/reconstruction and the property <br />opportunities and challenges relative to Article 97 and the Vine Brook Culvert. <br />• Enhanced the community outreach process for recreation capital project development <br />including neighborhood playground renovations and the Hard Court Reconstruction <br />project at the Center Recreation Complex. <br />• Dedicated the Robert Farias Basketball Courts at the Center Recreation Complex. <br />• Completed capital projects in support of recreation in Lexington including the <br />9/27/2022 3:13 PM <br />
