Minutes:
• Approved minutes from the October 18 meeting—Katie put forward a motion and it was
seconded by Christopher and then approved by Beth, Carrie, and Lisa
Agenda: Discussion: Working Innovation Plan
• Katie and Chris presented the overview of the "Innovation Plan" district wide initiative
highlighting the 4 strategic objectives A, B, C and D
• Key deck highlights:
o Collaboration is key across the district—the plan will be looking at the individual school
level, but also looking across joint district initiatives.
o Hastings staff has strong RTI to ensure interventions are made for students that are not
meeting benchmarks. Additionally, data informs decisions and working on new
leadership structure.
o A call to complete a Parent self-assessment survey was sent out. However, the Parent
self-assessment response rate was low—but this seems to be a shared statistics across
other schools too.
o Of the Parents who did respond some indicated that they were "unsure how assessment
really works"
o Goal setting seems to be more "talked about" at 3 and 4 grade level.
o Chris commented on the range of a "measurable goal' expressing that any child could
have a measurable goal for example a K student needing to "sit" for snack to a 5th
grader having a reading goal. Therefore, we need to collectively think of goal setting in
context for grade level and share communication.
o Some of the Parent suggestions from the survey were asking children to be "challenged
more", Parents expressed the want for more information around decision making, an
example was around "adding world language" and looking for more ways to provide
feedback on areas.
• Katie walks through the 4 goals
o Address and Narrow Equity Gaps
o Redefine Success
o Cultivate Student Agency
o Innovate for Sustainable Change
• Carrie—asks questions around the size of the current school in relation to the overall innovation
planning.
o Chris shared
■ Hastings is at 622 +/- students with a student capacity of 650, 30 classrooms
available, but only using 29 classrooms.
■ central registration determines where kids are assigned
