Dr . James J Walsh asked how much of this appropriation was to be spent on the planting of new trees , his idea for this year , being to economize . Selectilan Dr . Shannon , replied , 4900 . 00 was to be used for planting new trees . Dr . James J Walsh then offered the following substitute motion , VOTED ; That the amount for the protection of shade trees be approved for VI60u . O0 and to be used solely for the care of existing trees . Mr. Ross , stated , when aLpropriation was approved , his under- standing was 42 , 200. 00 would be used in the care of existing trees , and 4300 . 00 for new trees . Selectman Mr . Trask states not his understanding and it would be a mistake to cut the budget , as in a few years some of our best trees would die from neglect . General disco: sion about trees followed , by Mr . Uv4AdILWood, Mr . Chamberlain, Lir . Moulton and Selectman Mr . Blake , and tne fact made known , that trees on public park and other public property should be taken care of by the park department . E B Worthen , spoke on the treatment of the trees , as of last years work by the men from the Alectric bight and Telephone Companies , hoping same v: ould not be repeated , using as an example , the conditiofi of the trees in front of the Baptist Uhurch.
