<br /> because of the case pending against the Town at this time which would
<br /> require further legal services .
<br /> Motion offered by Moderator Mr . Holt , of the appropriation of
<br /> 43 , 500. 00 for legal services , 4IOu0 . 0U of same for salary of Town

<br /> This .appropriation was approved for 411 , 480 . 00 , although
<br /> selectman Dr . Shannon recomended the amount be raised to jI2 , 725 . u0 ,
<br /> explaining that the cut mean ' t -the , dropping of three men from the
<br /> engineering department , but one of these men had already been taen
<br /> on by the water department . The increase would insure the other two men
<br /> of their present positions , which he telt necessary to keep up its
<br /> engineering work and it would therefore be to the best interests of the
<br /> Town to accept the increased appropriation.
<br /> Mr . Ered Moulton asked for the Town Engineer ' s opinion of the
<br /> increase .
<br /> Mr . John T iosgrove , Tows Engineer , stated that he felt the two
<br /> men were needed .
<br /> Mr . Ross , of the Appropriation 4ommittee , said that the expenses
<br /> of this department , had been doubled in the past five years , and at the
<br /> rate - of the increase asked , it would double again. He stated he still
<br /> thought the department could get along on the 411 , 480. 00 as reooamaended.
<br /> The Motion was placed before the meeting by the Moderator , and
<br /> the decision was given by the Moderator , in favor of the negative , but
<br /> with a doubt of over twenty , a rising vote was declared.
