<br />SITE COUNCIL 2/27/15 <br />(13) ATTENDANCE: Lynnette Allen, Nimisha Asthagari, Russ Bosbach, Angela <br />Chang, Meg Collela, Betsy Conway, Jean Kelly, Susan Orenstein, Naomi Priver, <br />Deb Sabin, Deidre Schadler, Roxana Spitaleri-Risso, Zelda Rubenstein <br />Kathy McCarthy (literacy), Karen Tripoli (math), Jess Caverli (literacy) <br />I.approve minutes <br />II.Math Ä Karen Tripoli, Jean Kelly <br />A.teach math based on MA Curriculum Framework, has standards which teachers <br />teach K-12 <br />1.2011 shifted to this standards basis (as seen on report cards too) <br />2.example of ÅWhich # does not belong Ä 15,2,8,13,16 <br />3.the mat dept at Bridge plus Karen Tripoli (Math Dept head K-5) came up with <br />groupings to make accessible to teachers, then on particular unit came up <br />with road map to teach the standards (what are they, where do we go to get <br />the information, how do we teach the students) <br />4.report cards are on line (LPS website) <br />5.also K-5 benchmarks are on line <br />6.continuum, ie for fractions <br />a)1st grade divide in 1/2 and 1/4 <br />b)2nd grade 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 <br />c)3rd grade, look at wholes, comparing fractions <br />d)4th add/subtract with similar denominators <br />e)5th models, explain thoughts of comparing and manipulating fractions <br />f)6th grade standards in book as well, do everything plus multiply/divide, <br />show visual models <br />B. <br />III.Literacy Ä reading, writing, and word study <br />A.assess students as a whole group 3 times/year <br />1.2 tools Ä listen to them read and get a number then other is nationally <br />normed Ames Web <br />2.report card, standards also framed the curriculum on the 2011 standards <br />3.reading at grade level <br />4.writing Ä narrative, persuasive, and opinion (does progress through K-12) <br />B.on line can see skill progressing over time <br />1.reading, <br />2.writing (Lucy Conchran, writerÈs workshop) <br />a)can see continuum and use for teacher grading, and to lead them to next <br />level; also on a rubric for teachers; students also have in their own <br />language to help with their writing <br />C.reading <br />IV.Report Cards <br />A.after all this, then what <br />B.do review report cards, can track across time, passed grade to grade <br /> <br />
