Lexington Council for the Arts
Approved Meeting Minutes – May 12, 2014 at Town Offices Building – Parker Room
b.Questions about sub-committee of outside community members who have
excellence in that area, including LCA
Stakeholders
“Experts” vs. “Connectors”
Juried shows
Assistance to find items to borrow
Advice on items that might be purchased
Are you thinking of 3 shows a year, 4 months each? Or 4 shows?
Or one or two shows for first year?
Who is point person for CC? Staff person? Volunteer?
c.Gallery space for arts – unmet need in Lexington
Dining room? Hall outside?
Could we use Commander’s room? 1 or 2 shows a year
-Might help for work that is fancier or more delicate – but could put one
sample on first floor, saying “Exhibition continues on Second Level” to
create flow of traffic
-Uses smaller wall space (but keeps work safe)
We could see art in the hall outside art room that ties more closely to
programming – example, a preview of someone’s work if that artist was going
to come in and lead a workshop -- or, sample work from artist in residence…
Ideal to tie hall work to an Artist-in-residency program 3 ? per year
CC offers art workshop station / space
CC offers an area where artist LEAVES supplies
(artist can’t be required to transport things back & forth!)
CC offers display space for finished work, works-in-progress
Artist offers workshop, talk, something interactive and shows work
Maybe LCA can coordinate grant or stipend to help with supplies?
Old business –
LOS review:
Cristina sent information to Judith Cooper regarding reimbursement for reception. Zoe is
following up and will send information to Cristina. Check for $300.00 contribution will
be made out from LCA to Lexington Open Studios.
Signs were very good to draw new people in.Rain appeared helpful to some locations,
especially group showings. Some people see items, and return to purchase. Munroe was
busy too. April helps – but not easy to be with school vacation.
Patriots’ Day Parade Review:
Matthew Pronchick, Lynne Klemmer, Cristina Burwell, Becky Sue Epstein, all joined in
the contingent. 250 trading cards were given out and volunteers think that more could
have been given out. Nice to have larger image files for higher quality photos. Best
practice is to add photo credit (some people forward photos without information). We
should ask for the photo credit information.
2
