,S US Mop <br />pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 <br />APRIL 11- <br />k /NG'V <br />Bikeway User Safety: The committee discussed with Sgt. Callahan the heavy <br />use of the Bikeway during the Labor Day weekend. In a discussion about different <br />ways to slow users at intersections, speed platforms and four way yields or stops <br />were talked about. At the new Westview intersection, Trail X -Ing signs have not <br />been installed, nor have any pavement warnings been applied on the street or on <br />the Bikeway — these are important safety amenities. The root barrier work is <br />underway, but the existing bumps and roots are not being shaved due to lack of <br />appropriate equipment. <br />Bikeway Counts: Margaret Stebbins is organizing the counts on September 13 <br />and 15. In response to a question about the value of counting Bikeway users, <br />Richard said that the statewide counts are important for future state and federal <br />funding. Highly used routes establish the need for the construction of additional <br />routes and the repair of existing routes. <br />Other Business: <br />... Hayden Ave is being repaved with bike lanes. <br />...The Planning Board and the Economic Development Committee have launched <br />LexEngage to encourage regular feedback from citizens on a variety of town <br />business including traffic, bicycle and auto parking, etc. Peggy will send link to <br />committee members. <br />... The Mass Ave area in front of 1720 Mass Ave will be expanded to two spots on <br />the weekend of September 23 to accommodate a special "parklet" alongside the <br />bicycle parking. <br />The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm. <br />Record of the Discussion of the Friends of Lexington Bikeways <br />The treasurer reported no expenses for the month. The group agreed to refrain <br />from seeking donations for plowing until the funds are needed. <br />Bob Hausslein is coordinating volunteers for the September18 Farmer's Market <br />Bike Corral. <br />Peggy and Sandra Shaw are organizing a bike corral for the Country Fair on <br />September 22. The planned location is in front of the swimming pool complex <br />from 11 am to 4 pm. The group voted to hire MassBike to help run the event and <br />to pay them $524 to provide two staff people. signage, valet slips, insurance, a <br />tent, table, chairs, expertise, and media advertising. FoLB will provide control <br />barriers, additional staff, a clear area to set up the corral, and advertising. In <br />addition we voted to rent a truck for up to $100 to transport poles and racks <br />
