,S US Mop
pQ` 1 775 ` (3
APRIL 11-
k /NG'V
... Peggy is preparing a draft of the 350 -word annual town report and will share it
with members prior to turning it in.
... The Mass Ave Corridor project meeting will conflict with our next meeting;
therefore members agreed to postpone November's meeting until November 15.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
Record of the Discussions of the Friends of Lexington Bikeways
The treasurer reported two large expenditures this month both for the bike corral at
the 300 opening ceremonies ($524 to Mass. Bike and $185 for truck rental).
Many of us felt unacknowledged by the 300 committee for our efforts that day.
We did park over 100 bikes, however. We received a donation of $100 in
memory of Phil Dinsky.
Patriot's Day Parade: Marita suggested we have a presence in the parade next
April. Since many on our committee are also Conservation Stewards, Stew
suggested we coordinate with them to have combined participation. Marita will
coordinate with Don Grant.
Farmer's Market: Bob Hausslein is coordinating volunteers for October 16.
Other Business:
... Brush clearing and mowing are progressing on the bikeway. If anyone has
specific areas of concern contact Bob Hausslein or Stew and they will clear the
area.
...Abe Benghiat, a junior at LHS, has proposed that Lexington host a bike -to-
school week next May, similar to a program that was part of Newton's Bike /Walk
Week. In the Newton program, students who walked or rode to school received a
stamp in a book that then could be redeemed for merchandize at local stores.
Peggy and Abe discussed the idea of having a full -blown Bike /Walk/Bus Week in
Lexington that would involve more than the high school activity. Peggy wrote to a
number of town staff people for their reaction and is awaiting a response. In order
for such a program to be successful, the committee agreed it would be important
for the town to endorse and support the concept.
... Marita contacted Martha Wood regarding an article about Jerry Van Hook and
his contribution to the LBAC over the years.
... Richard Spencer reported that the Tri Town Bikeway, Woburn, Winchester, and
Stoneham, is slow going but will eventually happen.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
Marita Hartshorn, Recorder
Peggy Enders, Editor
