,S US Mop <br />pQ` 1 775 ` �(3 <br />APRIL 11- <br />k /NG'V <br />APPROVED MEETING MINUTES <br />Committee Name: Lexington Bicycle Advisory Committee <br />Thursday, October 11, 2012, 7 pm, Town Office Building <br />Attending: Peggy Enders, Chair, Stew Kennedy, John Frey, Marita Hartshorn, <br />George Gagliardi, Bob Dangel, Mike Tabaczynski, Bob Hausslein, Sandra Shaw <br />(Recreation Liaison) <br />Absent: Patria Lanfranchi <br />Others Present: Richard Spencer <br />Minutes: The September 2012 minutes were accepted as submitted. <br />DCR Grant for Minuteman Bikeway User Information: Sandra, Peggy, Bob <br />Hausslein, and Stew along with 10 others from Bedford and Arlington attended the <br />inventory training session given by Toole Design to prepare volunteers to assess <br />signage and other amenities on and near the Bikeway. Toole is also scheduling a <br />3 -hour ride along the full length of the Bikeway. The bike map development is <br />progressing. <br />Bike Safety: Members discussed the apparent increase in the number of bicycle <br />accidents on both roadways and the bikeway. The committee would like to work <br />with Public Safety to develop a systematic method of tracking accidents involving <br />cyclists and the causes. Peggy has suggested this to both Capt Ferro and Sgt <br />Callahan. Bob Dangel will investigate methods that might be helpful. <br />Winter Plowing: The committee talked about plans to have Jimmy McLaughlin <br />again plow the Bikeway. Peggy will talk to Peter Kelley to firm up the <br />arrangement. We hope to repeat our agreement with the town to have the gates <br />open and barrels protecting the entrances. <br />ACROSS Lexington: We voted to write a letter of support for a CPR Grant <br />submitted by the Greenways Corridor Committee. Jerry Van Hook, in a <br />conversation with Peggy, expressed a need for walk - your -bike signs on board <br />walks. <br />Bikeway counts: Margaret Stebbins organized the counts on September 13 and <br />15. It appears that commuter use continues to increase. Saturday counts, <br />presumably more recreational, were down; however the day started out cold and <br />rainy. <br />
