MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE <br /> HELD AT THE TOWIT OFFICE BUILDING, MONDAY <br /> EVENING, JUNE 7, 1943. <br /> The meeting was opened in the- Town Accountant's office <br /> at 8:05 P.M. , by Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt, with the following members <br /> in attendance: <br /> Lewis L. Hoyt, Chairman <br /> George M. Hynes Richard W. Maynard <br /> Ronald D. Brown 1Tarvey F. Winlock <br /> Thatcher Jenney Raymond L. White <br /> Town Accountant <br /> Minutes of the Meeting held April 12, 1943 <br /> It was regularly moved and voted to dispense with' the <br /> reading of the minutes of the regular meeting held April 12, 1943. <br /> Mr. Photos S. Grindle, Superintendent of Schools, and <br /> Mr. Tracy W. Ames, a member of the School Committee, were admitted <br /> to the meeting. Mr. Ames spoke about the maximum salary of school <br /> teachers in the Elementary schools, as the School Committee would <br /> like to get the approval of this Committee in raising the maximum <br /> so that they would be able to retain the teachers.- The present <br /> maximum of salaries of the Elementary school is $1,700.00 per an- <br /> num, Junior High school is $1,900.00 per annum and the Senior High <br /> school is $2,000.00 per annum. Mr. Ames stated that all teachers <br /> now must have at least four years of training for Elementary as <br /> well as Junior and Senior High schools and he thought that the <br /> Elementary school maximum salary should be somewhere near the Jun- <br /> ior High. Mr. Ames stated that the School Committee wanted to <br /> raise the maximum salary of the Elementary school teabhers from <br /> $1,700.00 to $1,800.00 a year. He said that only eight teachers <br /> would be affected by this and that the school had sufficient money <br /> in the appropriation to take care of it. The principal reason he <br /> appeared before this Committee was to inform us what they were doing <br /> and to- get this Committee's approval. Nothing further to discuss, <br /> Messrs. Grindle and Ames left this meeting at 8:20 P.M. <br />
