Minutes for Thursday November 10, 2011 in the Lobby of Cary Hall at 7:00 P.M.

FORMAL HEARINGS
910 Massachusetts Avenue
: David Rose presented a picture of the door to be replaced with the
appropriate brass hardware, door painted white. The Commissioners voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of
appropriateness to replace the door. Certificate No. 2011C-86

1475 Massachusetts Avenue
: Timothy Greene, representing AT&T, presented plans for a 4G upgrade of
GPS antenna in fiberglass tubes. Originally the plan had been to mount them on the cable tray but that
was not secure, so they will be mounted off vent sleeves and stick out slightly. He will move the existing
one back and they will be painted black.
Discussion: Mr. David Walks objected to the plan and talked about litigation in Superior Court. Mr.
Welch said that this was not in the HDC realm. The Commissioners voted 5-0 to permit placement of 2
GPS units on the back of the roof, existing vent removed and fiberglass pipe placed there. Certificate No.

: Charlie Marz, presented shingles he will be using to re-roof his garage.
The Commissioners voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to replace the existing garage roof.

: This hearing was cancelled by the home owner and see below for Informal
Hearing.
21 Hancock Street
: Megan and Emanuele Ostuni presented a sample window which the Commissioners
had questions about. They were asked to do more research and come back. They have requested to be on
the January 5, 2010 agenda.
7 Lockwood Road
: Linda Keating, representing Jeffery and Elizabeth Crampton, presented sample
shingles of charcoal black to be used to re-roof the entire house. The Commissioners voted 5-0 to issue a
certificate of appropriateness to re-roof the house in the architecturally appropriate charcoal black color.

: Britta McCarthy presented samples of architecturally appropriate, asphalt
shingles, color: Fox Hollow Gray. The Commissioners voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness
to reroof the house in the Fox Hollow Gray asphalt shingles. Certificate No. 2011C-89

35 Hancock Street
: Patrick Carroll presented possible reconfiguring plans for the driveway but they are
still in the works. Continued to December 1, 2011 meeting.
INFORMAL HEARINGS
20 Waltham Street
: Mark Ehrli, representing Buca Di Beppo presented several mock-up possibilities for
signs. The Commissioners said that were not comfortable with the proposed signs but said they could
come for a formal hearing December 1, 2011. Dan Griffin mentioned that he went by there and a
sandwich board left over from lunch was still on the sidewalk. Mr. Ehrli said he would address this
immediately and it would not happen in the future. Formal Hearing December 1, 2011.
1646 Massachusetts Avenue
: Carl Oldenberg, representing Sharon Spaulding, presented pictures and a
layout of the building. The rear 2/3’s of the building has poor exposure to Massachusetts Avenue. They
will add one bay window that will match the existing one, instead of 3 signs there will be only 2 with no
sign over the new bay window. Formal Hearing December 1, 2011.
1970 Massachusetts Avenue
: Stacy and Johan Lindborg, representing Sue Blessing, presented plans to
install a mitigation system to reduce radon exposure. The Commissioners were concerned with where it
would be placed and what material would be used. Formal Hearing scheduled for December 1, 2011.
1556 Massachusetts Avenue
: Luis Melendez presented plans to take down a garage and move it forward
and to add a sunroom onto the house. Scheduled for a Formal Hearing Dec. 1, 2011.
