FORMAL HEARINGS
1841 Massachusetts Avenue:
Nannette Cote, Fancy Flea Antiques, presented photographs showing what the
sign would look like.
The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for wall signage. Certificate
No. 2011C-48

1083 Massachusetts Avenue:
Fred Shoemaker, representing, Ann Hortonshowed an example of the proposed

The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of
appropriateness to re-roof the home. Certificate No. 2011C-49

1061 Massachusetts Avenue:
Carl Proper presented photographs of the north side of house showing where the
skylights would be placed, and photographs showing that this could not be seen from Massachusetts Avenue.
The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to re-roof north side of home and add two skylights.

Luis Melendez, presented a plot plan showing where the stone wall and fence are
going to be placed, and photographs showing the different style of stonewall and fence to be used.
The
Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a stone wall at the front property line and replace a
picket fence on right side with a stockade fence to match the neighbors. Certificate No. 2011C-51

6 Meriam Street:
Chris Giguere, Lexington Playcare Center, presented drawings of the play area, photographs
of material to be used, and a photograph from Massachusetts Avenue showing what can be seen.
The
Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to remove the existing playground equipment and replace
with hardscape and a few small structures. Certificate No. 2011C-52

1874 Massachusetts Avenue:
Sergio DeMango, presented drawings of the Air Conditioner unit and
photographs showing proposed location on roof, and secondary location on ground, photograph from corner of
Bedford and Hancock Street showing what can be seen on the roof. The commission does not feel that anything
on that roof would be appropriate and asked if the applicant had another location in mind. The other location is
near the east wall lowered into the ground so it would line up with the height of the transformer vault.
The
Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a new Air Conditioning unit next to the east wall.

1006 Massachusetts Avenue:
Colin Smith, Colin Smith Architecture, Representing Town of Lexington,
presented a drawing of the new doors and photographs of existing condition and what the doors and narrowed
center pier will look like.
The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to narrow the center pier
and install two new garage doors. Certificate No. 2011C-54

1734 Massachusetts Avenue:
Colin Smith, Colin Smith Architecture, representing J & R Realty, presented a
cut sheet for a replacement vinyl window to be installed throughout the second floor. The commission stated
that vinyl windows are not appropriate in Historic Buildings according to both the Lexington Historic District
Commission guidelines and the Secretary of the Commonwealth guidelines. The Commission asked the
applicant if he had any other windows in mind to present and he said that was the one his clients wanted.
The
Commission voted 5-0 to issue a determination of denial for vinyl windows. Certificate No. 2011C-61

12 Waltham Street:
Colin Smith, Colin Smith Architecture, representing J & R Realty, presented drawings of
the wall sign, a photograph showing where it will be placed, and a photograph of the entrance door with just the
company’s logo. The commissioners were concerned that the logo would not be appropriate for that space and
asked the applicant if his clients would be willing to simply have the name Lexington Wealth Management on
the door. Mr. Smith indicated that removing the logo in place of the firms name would be fine. Mr. Smith also
requested to replace the door with a frameless glass door. The commission thought that two totally different
looking doors side by side would not be appropriate for this building and suggested that if the left hand door
could be painted out to make it look subordinate to the main entrance that would be approved.
The Commission
voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for wall signage, door signage, repainting the directory sign, painting the

left hand side door and replacing the main entrance door.

6-8 Wallis Court:
Colin Smith, Colin Smith Architecture, representing, Kathryn & Dan Rapperport, presented
drawings of the front porch showing additional granite step, and samples of color choices.
The Commission voted
5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for the addition of a granite step, iron handrails on the front steps, enclosing
the rear trash area, removing shutters, and paint color. Certificate No. 2011C-56

Casimir Groblewski presented photograph of existing house, and samples of
color choice.

46 Bedford Street:
Darlene McCarthy, Viewpoint Signs, representing, Supercuts, Signage, (The pylon sign) in the Battle
Green District was not able to attend the hearing.
46 Bedford Street:
Dan Yu,presented a drawing showing the color of the banners and the line drawings they were
requesting to be in each banner. The commissioners asked if the applicant’s idea was to demonstrate what kind of shops
were in the building, and if so would it be better to wait until the building had all the tenants. Mr. Yu stated that he was
trying to show things that happened in down town Lexington. The commission was concerned that the line drawings Mr.
Yu is suggesting would make his customers believe those were the stores in the building. The commission suggested
looking into using solid color banners or going with more abstract designs. The commission also wants to see a drawing
of what the banners will look like on the building. Mr. Yu will take another look at the banners and return to in August.
Meriam Street:
Jerold Michelson, Lexington Center Committee, presented a photograph showing what the parking booth
looked like when the sign mock ups were in place. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for
two signs one directly above the window and one the far right hand side in the middle. Certificate No. 2011C-58

16 Belfry Terrace:
Omar Khudaripresented a photo showing the gable end of the house and the existing window they
would like remove, and a cut sheet of the window they want to use in the dormers.
