The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to re-roof home using Pewter Gray Architectural Shingles, from the Timberline Company. Certificate No. 2011C-22. Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg, and Marilyn Fenollosa 7 Maple Street: map 30 Lot 99Joe Caruso, presented color chips. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to change the homes exterior color. Certificate No. 2011C-25 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 1727 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 101:Kevin and Karen Masterson, Nourish Restaurant, Signage (Blade Sign) in the Battle Green District. Requested to be continued until June 2011 Meriam Street : Susan Yanofsky, Economic Development Director, Town of Lexington, presented photographs showing the parking kiosk with a Parking symbol under the eves and pricing sign photo shopped on, and another photograph showing the distance the Center Committee needs the sign to be visible from. The commission suggested making the pricing sign one line in order to not cover the architectural details of the building. In order to prevent the pricing sign from looking like temporary the commission suggested looking into sign foam. The commission also wants to see a mock up of the sign on the parking kiosk. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a parking symbol sign under the eve on the front of the kiosk. Certificate No. 2001C-27 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 1415 Massachusetts Avenue map 39 Lot 61B:Kathleen Wilsack presented a cut sheet of the pavers and a photograph showing a different location where that paver and patter was used. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to re-surface the driveway with pavers and a cobblestone boarder. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for new back yard hardscapes (driveway, stairs, walls, fencing, lighting ect.) Certificate No. 2011C-24 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 5 Harrington Road map 57 lot 1:Adina Fuller, Bechtel Frank Erickson, representing, Thomas and Carla Fortmann, Exterior Architectural Change (replacing carriage house) in the Battle Green District Requested by the applicant to be continued until July 2011 1006 Massachusetts Avenue map 30 lot 31:Mark Barrett, Lexington Public Facilities, presented exterior photographs showing where the vents will go and a cut sheet of the vents themselves. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for the installation of two (2) kitchen exhaust vents. Certificate No. 2011C-23 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins CONTINUED HEARINGS : map 48 lot 169 1625 Massachusetts Avenue Jack Glassman, Bargmann Hendrie & Archetype, Inc., representing, Town of Lexingtonpresented photograph of location of restroom vent, cut sheets of product, and color choices. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for the installation of a lower level rear restroom vent. Certificate No. 2011C-28 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 1690 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 31Gregg Godfrey, Panera Bread, presented drawings of the three : signs and photographs of the sign mock up on the east façade of the building from different angles. Commissioners went to see the mock up when it was in place and are satisfied with the size of the proposed east façade sign. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for three signs one on the front, east facade and rear of the building. Certificate No. 2011C-29 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 1666 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 30A: Sharon Spaulding, Spaulding Management Corporation, representing, Lexx Restaurant, presented a photograph showing what the menu board on the wall to the right of the side door would look like. The menu board is going to be the same size and style as the one at 1709 Massachusetts Avenue. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a menu board on the east side of the building next to the new side entrance. Certificate No. 2011C-30 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 35 Hancock Street , map 56 lot 46:Patrick Carroll spoke about roof shingles, exterior doors and windows. The existing window sills and frames are in good shape and he will only need to replace the sashes instead of the entire window. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for Roofing, Windows and Doors. Certificate No. 2011C-31 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins MINUTES FOR THURSDAY, May 5, 2011 1475 Massachusetts Avenue : map 48 lot 276: Sally Springer-Kotelnikov, representing Muzzey High Condominiums Trusteesand Greg McNamara, Wilminton Builders presented photographs of the monument windows, and diamond grid window. The monument windows will have three sections the top curve, middle and bottom section. For safety reasons the middle section will be the only one that opens. The entire frame to the diamond grid window in the side hallway will be replaced and will not open. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to replace the monument and diamond grid window. Certificate No. 2011C-32 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 46 Bedford Street: map 57 lot 14ADan Yu and Paul Murphy presented a drawing showing the freestanding sign with each tenant having a light background and any color lettering as their sign standard. At a previous hearing for one of the tenants’ signs the tenant presented an image with a dark background, white letter and logo for their space on the freestanding sign. The commission felt that the dark background color scheme is more appropriate for this sign and has asked the applicants to see if they can make the dark background work for them. Mr. Yu and Mr. Murphy will return in June 2011 46 Bedford Street : map 57 lot 14AKevin Duggan, Metro Sign & Awning, representing, People’s United Bank, presented photographs of what the new signs for People’s United Bank will look like. These signs will replace the previously approved signs for Danvers Bank. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for two wall signs, and signage on ATM. Certificate No. 2011C-33 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins 9 Brigham Road : map 56 lot 214Chip Webster, representing, David & Judy Crayer, presented new plans for the addition. They needed to move everything forward due to wetlands issues on the rear of property, and are adding a shed addition to the side of the garage. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to move the addition forward on the property. Certificate No. 2011C-34 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Daniel Griffin Jr., and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Carl Oldenburg and Lynn Hopkins INFORMAL HEARINGS All Districts: Sandy Shaw, Town of Lexington Community Preservation Committee, presented a drawing of the signage they would like to place on projects they are sponsoring. The commission thought the drawing looked fine, and they will come for a formal hearing in June 2011 848 Massachusetts Avenue : map 22 lot 74Varujan Abalian, showed a drawing of the property in front of his store showing where he wanted to put benches, planters and maybe a bike rake. The space where he wants to place these items is owned by the building and not the town. The commission likes the idea and Mr. Abalian will return in June 2011 for a formal hearing. 1713 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 101: Tara Sherman, Raveis Realty, showed photographs of the front of their office with the flower boxes drawn in. They are planning on using a product from Walpole Woodworkers. Ms. Sherman is going to speak with the engineering department to see if there are any permits needed due to being on the public sidewalk. The commission thought that the flower boxes looked appropriate and Ms. Sherman will be back for a formal hearing in June 2011. 33 Forest Street map 49 lot 164B: Scott Robins needs to make modifications to the windows. The commission wants him to get drawings together showing what needs to be done and come back for a continued hearing MINUTES FOR THURSDAY, May 5, 2011 OTHER BUSINESS The Joint meeting between the Historic District Commission and the Historical Commission has been moved to June 16, 2011. The Historical Commission has a very full agenda in May.
