The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for signage. Certificate No. 2012C-5 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle, and Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg, Massachusetts Avenue , Cathy Quinlan, representing Candy McLaughlin, Lexington Reads Committee, presented a drawing of what the temporary banners will look like, and a list of where the banners would be hung. The public works Department will install the banners around February 9 and take them down around April 2, 2012. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for signage (Temporary Banners). Certificate No. 2012C-7 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle, and Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg 1575 Massachusetts Avenue : Michael Flamang, Senior Civil Engineer, Town of Lexington, presented photographs and drawings showing the locations of the necessary vent stacks on the garage of the police station. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for vent stacks. Certificate No. 2012C-6 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle, and Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg 1775 Massachusetts Avenue: Ed Juralewicz, United SignCo Inc., representing Hammond Residential, presented photographs showing the existing signage and proposed signage on the front, side and rear of the building. The wording is the only thing that will change. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to replace signage. Certificate No. 2012C-9 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle, and Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 e-mail acasparius@lexingtonma.gov MINUTES FOR THURSDAY, February 2, 2012 FORMAL HEARINGS CONT. 1726 Massachusetts Avenue: James Berberian, Orange Leaf, presented a detail drawing of the signage, awning and a photograph showing what the awning will look like in place. The commission had an issue with the tag line America’s Frozen Yogurt feeling it was too much like advertising rather than stating what the business was. The applicant will remove the word America’s after their name. The awning will be solid black with the company’s logo on either side. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for signage and awning. Certificate No 2012C-8 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle, and Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg 1690 Massachusetts Avenue: Kevin Latady, Latady Design, LLC, representing Turtle Bay Limited Partnership, Presented a site plan showing where the proposed building signs will be placed; an elevation of the front, side and rear of the building showing the signage, and two cut sheets of paneling and letters for the signs. The parking lot in the rear of this building is a private lot and the owners want to clearly identify the Vine Brook Building. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for signage. Certificate No. 2012C-10 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle, and Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg CONTINUED HEARINGS 1690-1692 Massachusetts Avenue: Scott Hopkins Ford Sign Services, representing, The Hair Cuttery, presented a photograph showing the existing rear wall of the building, and a detailed drawing of the proposed sign. The commission still had questions regarding the rear door, and lighting. Kevin Latady, Latady Design, LLC, who represents the building owners will discuss these issues at the March hearing. The commission agreed that the sign itself can be approved without further delay. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for signage. Certificate No. 2012C-11 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle, and Associate Commissioners: Carl Oldenburg 1970 Massachusetts Avenue : Stacy and Johan Lindborg representing Sue Blessing, presented photographs of what the radon mitigation pipe would look like and a letter explaining the project. The Commission continued the hearing because they wanted the applicant to look into having the pipe go through the eve and roof rather than extending out. Megan & Emanuele Ostuni: Exterior Architectural Changes (replacement of windows and 21 Hancock Street: removal of storm sets) in the Hancock-Clarke District. Continue to March 2012 hearing requested by applicant. 35 Hancock Street: Patrick Carroll, spoke about the driveway turn around. The commission believed he is on the right track with the turn around however; they want to see the detail of how he plans to connect the driveway to the main walkway. Mr. Carroll will return in March 1556 Massachusetts Avenue : Luiz Melendez, Exterior Architectural Changes (tear down existing garage and replace with free standing one and addition of a sunroom) in the Battle Green District. Continue to March 2012 hearing requested by applicant. MINUTES FOR THURSDAY, February 2, 2012 INFORMAL HEARINGS 7 Harrington Road : Parker Hirtle, representing, First Parish Church, showed images of the signs and where they were to be placed, along with a mock up of the freestanding sign. The Commission thought everything looked fine. Mr. Hirtle is ready for a formal hearing 1875 Massachusetts Avenue : Dawn McKenna, Lexington Tourism Committee, presented drawings of the different ideas the committee is looking into regarding the visitor’s center. This project is not slated for this years town meeting however, the tourism committee wanted to get some feedback from the Commission in regards to the possible plans. The commission had a few design ideas and talked about the distance to the bike path, but in general did not see anything major. When the project gets further along the committee should return for another informal hearing. OTHER BUSINESS Neighbors of 2027 Massachusetts Avenue came to speak about the proposed bed and breakfast at that site and the impact it will have on the historic character of the neighborhood. Letters were given to the commission members restating the neighbor’s objections to the project as proposed to Other Committee’s in town such as the Planning Board. Since no actual hearing was requested by the applicants no action was taken by The Commission. The neighbors were invited back to voice their concerns when a hearing, whether formal or informal, for 2027 Massachusetts Avenue is held.
