Meeting Began: 7:45 a.m. The Committee approved the minutes from March 9 2012. Continue discussing subcommittee to broaden Asian - American participation in local government: Dan said the subcommittee is still working on recruiting volunteers for the subcommittee. Peter Lee has potentially three members of the Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL) who are willing to volunteer. Bhumip said the Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL) also will be finalizing a representative soon. Fernando will follow up with the League of Women Voters, and Peter Enrich will recruit a volunteer from the Town Meeting Members Association. If everyone we contact wants to participate, there would be more members than the charge specifies, but this could be changed. Fernando said it is important to have a mix of cultures on the committee, but we also do not want to limit the number of people that can participate. Dan said the subcommittee needs to be finalized in the coming weeks because the goal is to have the first meeting before the end of May. Update plans for community survey: Candy collected some comments from department heads on the preliminary draft survey put together by Dan and Marian. She said a number of other departments and groups are planning surveys over the next year or so, including the Community Center Task Force, the Cary Memorial Library, the Recreation Department and the Health Division if they receive a community health grant. Dan said the 2020 Vision Committee's survey is different from the other proposals. Fernando suggested the subcommittee get a better understanding of the other surveys, including timing, and hold a meeting to discuss next steps. Peter Enrich and Andrew Dixon volunteered to be on the community survey subcommittee. Review Town Meeting issues of relevance to 2020 Vision: George said the 2020 Vision Committee was referenced in discussion of the Center zoning articles because the Committee set the stage for these proposals a few years ago by emphasizing the importance of commercial development. Peter Enrich said the budget was passed on Wednesday. George said the Town is in good fiscal health, which is starting to surface some interesting questions that haven't recently been considered in Lexington. He suggested the 2020 Vision Committee consider the possibility of having a Fiscal Task Force to look at these questions in the coming years.
