Selectmen's Meeting Room
Members present: Fernando Quezada, Peter Enrich, Alan Wrigley, Bhumip Khasnabish, Dan Krupka,
Andrew Dixon, and Margaret Coppe

Action Items:
• Redraft the charge of the subcommittee on Asian - Americans in Lexington.
• Create a matrix for focus group feedback.
Meeting Began: 7:45 a.m.
The Committee approved the minutes from December 16, 2011.
Town Report: The Committee took a picture for the 2011 Annual Report.
Discuss Survey: Dan said he met with Carl, Candy and Marian to discuss a possible survey for Lexington
residents. Candy said the Town Manager's recommended budget allocated $10,000 for a community
survey in FY13. Dan said the Committee should not make this survey a priority unless the results will be
visible. Candy said Carl can sense the Committee's frustration. Although Dan said the results will not
likely result in performance metrics for the organization, it will provide an assessment of current
performance and will help set priorities for the future. Candy said the survey should force people to
prioritize services so they don't indicate everything is equally important. Dan agreed this is important,
but he said they still have not determined the mechanics of the survey or the mechanics of the process.
Fernando said this survey is to establish what the community thinks is important in the next ten years,
while the focus groups were intended to wrap up the past 10 years.
Draft Subcommittee Charge to broad Asian - American participation in local government: Fernando
said this project grew out of the DCTF Recommendations, with the goal of making government more
accessible and identifying the barriers that keep Asian- Americans from becoming engaged in the
community. The Committee reviewed the draft charge of the subcommittee and recommended several
revisions. Dan said it was his vision to be efficient by having the subcommittee do their work between
2020 Vision Committee meetings. The Committee will select members for the subcommittee at the next
meeting.
