Lexington 2020 Vision Committee
Minutes of Meeting of May 4, 2012
A meeting of the 2020 Vision Committee was held on Friday, May 4 at 7:45 a.m. in the
Selectmen's Meeting Room in the Town Office Building at 1625 Massachusetts Avenue. A
quorum of 10 was present.
Members Present: Fernando Quezada, Peter Enrich, Peter Lee, Jane Warren, Dan Krupka, Andrew
Dixon, Bhumip Khasnabish, George Burnell, Marian Cohen, Alan Wrigley
Staff: Candy McLaughlin, Michelle Stevens
Members Absent: Chuck Benson, Peter Lee, Janice Frascatore,
The meeting acted on the following items:
The Committee approved the minutes from April 6 2012.
Finalize subcommittee to broaden Asian- American participation in local government: Dan said the
Subcommittee's first meeting is scheduled for May 15 The agenda is to review the charter and plan next
steps. Dan said the Subcommittee is still looking a volunteer from the League of Women Voters and a
volunteer to represent the Korean community. Fernando said he will follow up with Nancy Corcoran-
Ronchetti from the League of Women Voters and Peter Enrich said he will try to find a Korean volunteer.
The Committee would like to change the name to the Subcommittee on Demographic Change, but will
vote on any changes to the charge at the next meeting.
Update plans for community survey: Peter Enrich, Marian and Andrew are the informal working group
for community survey. Peter Enrich said he envisions the survey as a community survey led by the 2020
Vision Committee. Candy said the funding allocated for the community survey needs to be spent in
FY 13. Marian said the goal is to have the survey ready by early to mid -fall.
Discuss what happens after 2020: As the year 2020 approaches, the Committee's time horizon becomes
shorter -term and less distinct from the 2 -3 year view of the elected boards. Fernando suggested the
Committee engage in a look back to evaluate the process the Committee put in place, the goals identified,
and the degree of community engagement achieved. Results of the planned survey could inform this
process. Peter Enrich suggested going back to the three elected boards in the fall and asking if they want
to renew the two basic purposes of 2020 Vision for a farther time horizon. These two purposes are to
look ahead and identify long -term community goals, and to continually bring new people into the public
process. George said the Committee should take a look at the goals and review progress before taking it
to the elected boards. The process could begin with the liaisons: George from BOS, Greg Zurlo from
Planning Board, and Margaret Coppe from the School Committee.
