2. Current Business Review:
Report on ACROSS Lexington project (Rick/Alex/Eileen)
An Eagle Scout has signed on to build the new trail segment by Diamond
Middle School. Stew & Bob will supervise once Mike has laid out the
route. To be finished by summer's end.
Stew saw Pat Goddard who noted that the ACROSS subcommittee might
want to talk with Virginia Johnson who is working on invasives removal
and native plantings at Diamond in the area of the trail. Alex will get in
touch.
Eileen is still waiting on a callback from Karen Mullins re: signage on
Conservation lands. She did hear from Nell Walker about the "tree
screws" for signs on trees — they are $1.50 /set, 1 set per sign. Mike
wondered if that is more than we want to spend. Might depend on info
from Conservation, as well as price.
Alex, Eileen & Peggy walked the Bikeway portion of the ACROSS Route
A to discuss Bikeway appropriate signage. There was some concern about
too many signs, but we don't want people to get lost, either. The post at
the Parker Meadow entrance was discussed — do we need another post or
can we use the existing one. It was agreed that at least one more set of
eyes should look at the situation.
Rick was away — no update on logo development or funding status or
DPW approvals for sign locations.
Memorial Day is a hopeful deadline for: Town approvals, final logo
decision, funding.
Adams Street crossing still needs work. All involved approve the Myrna
Rd crosswalk plan, but abutting landowner has been using Town right -of-
way for garden — may need some delicate negotiation. Town has right to
use land, but we would like permission from abutters, so as not to cause
bitterness.
Action Item — Alex — contact Virginia Johnson
Current Business Updates:
• Drummer Boy trail easement (Bob /Stew) — still w/ Drummer Boy board
• Highland Ave/Pelham Road (Bob) — Bob & Stew went to Registry of
Deeds & confirmed abutters. They found no trail easements, but no denial
of access. John Livsey determines that this gives the Town tacit access to
the property as it is Town land. Bob et al will keep working with abutters
to reach agreement.
• Wood Street trail improvement (Paul) — Paul absent, no update
• Action Item — Bob — Highland/Pelham follow -up
4. New Business:
Community Carbon Challenge (Rick) — In Rick's absence Peggy
explained the idea. Each Lexington citizen would pledge to drive 300
miles fewer in a year (to coincide with Lexington's tercentenary),
encouraging walking & biking.
We discussed having an ACROSS Lexington map available on the Town
website. People outside the GCC have been asking for it. Our advertising
is working! Stew suggested working through Deb Mauger to get that done.
Howie mentioned that York Harbor, ME, has a very good town signage
system that might be worth looking at as we consider our signage in
conjunction with Bikeway signage and other Town needs.
Action Items:
Alex — contact Virginia Johnson
Bob — Highland/Pelham follow -up
