The chairman called the meeting to order at 7:05pm. Brian Kelley moved to approve the minutes of
the February 15 meeting. Lynne Wilson seconded the motion and it passed.
Mr.Williams reported on the progress with the dog regulation signs. He said that they were expected to
be ready on March 22. There were 12 signs total with 8 going to Hayden and 4 for our committee to
place.
Mr. Kelley reported on the progress with the bathroom facility to be constructed at the park. The
paperwork has been signed by the Selectmen and Town Manager. A check for$25,000 will be drawn as
soon as possible and given to the Lions Club so that they can begin the process. Dick Perry of the Lions
Club will renew the building permit immediately if he has not already done so. Fundraising is now the
priority. Mr. Kelley has talked to Jon Eddy and will do so again with regard to approaching the youth
sports groups. There was some discussion about a letter but the initial contact will be personal. Mr.
Kelley will also speak to Peter Coleman, the Recreation Department coordinator for team sports. Doug
Lucente of the Lions Club will act as treasurer for this project. Brian Kelley will informally talk to the
leagues about the fact that this construction is again on track and the need for funding commitments.
Wes Wirth reported about the map and information signage. lie is working with the graphic artist who
designed the pamphlet and looking at a 3' by 3' sign. The committee discussed a possibility of
perimeter map signs and 1 sign with more information to be installed at the intersection of the bike
path, boardwalk and new mound area. The question was raised as to whether we should invest in
additional signs in case of vandalism. Mr.Wirth did not think this would be necessary.
Wes Wirth reported about the maintenance plan. He has a quote from John Hamilton, originally with
Lussier, for an annual budget. This would include$6-7,000 for spring clean-up using 5 men for 3 days.
Work every two weeks for a total of 11 times during the growing season. This would use 5 men for one
day at a cost of$2,250(total$24,750). The question was asked,if 3 men would be adequate. Cutting
the meadow$350 per cut and fall clean-up—leaves off trails,etc.-$2,800. Irrigation on and off would
cost$500. Mr. Wirth will also get bids from Barnard and Foti. Total yearly cost including new planting
materials and tree work should not exceed$40,000.
Mr.Wirth will do a plant inventory to check on winter kill. He feels that additional plants are needed on
the left sign of the path going toward the fields and under the oak trees at the bike path on Worthen.
The next meeting is scheduled for 4:30 on April 5. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10.
Respectfully submitted,
