Draft Route 128 Corridor Plan (incomplete summary- recorder arrived late) ➢ Little or no mention: van pools, disabled commuters, TMA concept, reverse commute opportunities using shuttles, role of GPS technology, and funding of pilot shuttle routes by 128 BC. ➢ Sequence for plan of action: simplify and set a few measurable objectives ➢ Route 128 needs high volume lanes (HVL) to give incentive to coax commuters from SOVs to public transit or van pools. If traffic remains in gridlock along Route 128, what is the value of building a new transportation center along corridor? ➢ Circulation patterns not fully known. ➢ Five (5) corridor communities house twice as many jobs as residents. ➢ Written comments submitted by Peter Levy of TAC were distributed (attached). 128 Business Council / Town of Lexington Membership ➢ Route 128 Corridor members should become part of 128 BC Board. ➢ New director has improved bus shuttle schedule by creating a new designated Waltham bus. ➢ New director has not displayed much interest in community outreach. ➢ Waltham hotel have shuttles that accommodate hotel workers on reverse commute. ➢ If Town of Lexington is a member of 128 BC, can Lexington residents use service for reverse commute? Waltham Street Crosswalk ➢ Consultant hired. Options recommended: standard crosswalk ($10,000), high visibility crosswalk ($25,000), and pedestrian signal ($80,000). ➢ Dave introduced a new type of crosswalk signal that is allegedly most visible. He will try to secure details. ➢ Seniors are anticipated as primary user given proximity to Brookhaven. Good crossing protection required. ➢ Chapter 90 funds not available for this project. Town funding needed. ➢ TSAC will be asked to review options to make a recommendation. TMG will subsequently discuss. ➢ Selected crosswalk option will be presented at community meetings. Two involved groups identified were Brookhaven residents and South Lexington Committee. TIP Projects ➢ Town's top TIP road priority is the Mass Avenue Corridor. John Livsey is in charge. ➢ Greenbelt funds come from a non -road TIP source and should be pursued. Hartwell Avenue ➢ Final report is still in progress. DRAFT report will be discussed by TMG at next meeting. Next Meeting, April 27, 2010 Recorder: Gail Wagner
